Slapton Village nestles in the countryside behind Slapton Sands, a pretty village with 2 pubs and village shop.  There are plenty of walks from here, some incorporating Slapton Ley Nature Reserve, this freshwater lake is home to many varieties of birds. The local beach to here is Slapton Sands, a 3 mile stretch of beach  with the village of Torcoss at one end, here there are cafes and restaurants and several  shops.  Allied Troops practiced the D Day landings here and in the car park there is a Sherman tank that was recovered from the sea and is now a memorial to the ill-fated  Exercise Tiger.
