Welcome to Gurrow Point, the perfect location for a holiday in beautiful surroundings, with panoramic views over the River Dart, this is one of the loveliest settings in England.
The River Dart is undoubtedly one of Britain’s most beautiful tidal estuaries, which springs from the heart of Dartmoor and flows to the south, through the beautiful South Hams region of Devon. Gurrow Point is situated on the tip of the Dittisham Peninsula, approximately 2 miles up stream from the town of Dartmouth At this point the river is at its widest making it ideal for dinghy sailing, canoeing and windsurfing. There are numerous deep-water moorings nearby making it an excellent place to moor a yacht.
The village of Dittisham lies within a Conservation Area and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is a village shop and post office, together with two popular pubs and riverside café. There are further shopping facilities and restaurants in the nearby towns of Dartmouth and Totnes.
Greenway, Agatha Christie’s famous holiday home is just a short ferry ride away across the river, where the Dart Valley Steam Railway runs from Kingswear to Paignton.
Gurrow Point estate is the peninsular stretching to the north of Dittisham. Extending to over 80 acres of woodland and pasture, with a mile and a half of river frontage, it rises to nearly 200’ in the centre. From the old stone water trough on the summit, is a breathtaking 360o panorama of The Dart and Dittisham.
The estate has become a haven for an abundance of wildlife, and there is documented evidence that one of the first man made flights was attempted from here in 1894, by the pioneer aviator Albert Liwentaal.
We are fortunate to be able to offer Gurrow Cottage on the estate for holidays. The Cottage has been totally refurbished for this season and stands in its own secluded gardens overlooking the River Dart. The Water Garden has a series of ponds through which water cascades, and it leads down to a gate from where canoes, kayaks and small dinghies can be launched when the tide is high enough.
Use of tennis court with its own Pavilion with facilities to serve refreshments and picnics, with views over the gardens to the Dart just a hundred meters away.
The Cottage accommodates 6 people. Entrance hall. Large very tasteful and comfortably furnished lounge with TV and DVD and wood burning stove, leading into a conservatory/dining room with French Windows onto the Woodland Garden.
