Dittisham truly is a Devon gem. Nestled a few miles upstream from Dartmouth, this unspoiled and tranquil village is perfect for a relaxing riverside break and really makes the most of its waterside location. Watersports, fishing, sailing, paddle boarding and leisurely river rides are on your doorstep. Or why not hire a boat and explore the valley at your own pace?

On land, the shoreline meadow makes for a perfect picnic spot. Downstream by the jetty is The Ferry Boat Inn – drink and dine while enjoying picture-perfect views across the river valley beyond. It’s also where you can hire a canoe or kayak and paddle the river’s shallower waters.

Dittisham is also superbly connected by river to the Dart Valley’s must-see villages, towns, and attractions. Year-round frequent ferries take you to the historic port of Dartmouth, picturesque Kingswear and the eclectic charms of Totnes. And, just across the river on the opposite bank, a quick boat trip takes you to Agatha Christie’s resplendent Greenway holiday home and gardens, now cared for by the National Trust, and an idyllic day out.

Everything about this cottage was brilliant. The waterfront location is stunning. It’s rare for me to want to go back somewhere but I was immediately searching for dates for a return visit.Lorna August 2024
Thanks for a wonderful long weekend at Dunedin.
The cottage is beautifully equipped with sumptuous mattresses, and a fully kitted kitchen. The views from the front are divine and there’s everything you need to make your stay memorable. Alex June 2024

Absolutely adores our stay! The cottage is perfectly set up for being active on the river! The downstairs is so practical. We’ll definitely come back! Sarah April 2024

"Stunning house in superb location. Parking is difficult with a steep walk to the car park. For peace and tranquility this house couldn’t get any better with the harbour ideal for paddle boarding" - Adrian - July 2023

"Dunedin is a wonderful cottage, very well presented in a perfect location. The walks were wonderful, the ferry was close at hand for Dartmouth and Greenway. The house was well equipped, comfortable beds, good showers, and the cabin in the garden was a great addition. Will definitely return." - Sar - June 2023

"Dunedin is a wonderful cottage, very well presented in a perfect location. The walks were wonderful, the ferry was close at hand for Dartmouth and Greenway. "A lovely week at Dunedin Cottage, stunning setting on the river. A very comfortable and clean house which has everything you need. Many thanks "- Lizzy April 2023

"This is our fifth visit to Dittisham and Dunedin Cottage is the perfect base from which to watch the kids paddleboard (thanks to Lee @ Dittisham Boats) or sail (thanks to Kate @ Marshall Sailing). Lunch at the Anchorstone as delicious as always and other refreshments from the FBI. The kitchen is brilliantly equipped and the downstairs wet room a real bonus. We couldn’t love it more! Slightly gutted that it is already fully booked next summer!!!" Katie - August 2022

"This was a great house for our group of 8. We had sunny weather and enjoyed being so close to the water. The children enjoyed crabbing, paddle boarding and swimming from the front of the house. The village was busy but had a relaxed atmosphere. We managed to park easily enough in the village car park. We didn’t bring our dogs despite the house being advertised as dog friendly. Dogs are only allowed in one room of the house and it’s not a room that you would sit or spend any length of time in.
The house was well equipped and very comfortable. We would love to stay again." - Emma - August 2022

"We had a fantastic holiday in Dittisham staying at Dunedin Cottage - the cottage is very well equipped. The wet room and downstairs area is a boon if you are spending time on the water.... which we did. It's great there for swimming off the quay when the tide is right, and we hired Kayaks from Lee on the Jetty which were a great success. We also took an inflatable and a paddle board which we were able to tie up on the quay outside the cottage. We made some friends of other guests along the quay and the atmosphere was really friendly and fun. We had great weather and were able to take all our meals outside on the quay, some of which were provided by The Ferry Boat Inn who make excellent take away pizzas! A great family holiday. Thank you" - Sally - August 2022

"Dunedin is just perfect for a family gathering of four generations although the stairs are a challenge for older folk. Great beds! Good kitchen equipment and fab position with lovely sunny garden as a bonus. Dogs may get a bit lonely as they must remain downstairs so needs to be considered if you normally have them with you all the time. I love this house and hope to return. Thanks to all involved." - Hilary - July 2022

"Have stayed here before. Provides very good accommodation. In excellent riverside position. On a nice day great to sit outside looking at all the activity. It is just starting to look a little tired in some areas. Shame there was no corkscrew and the wet room loo had a missing push button." Vicki - September 2020

"We’ve dreamed of staying in Dittisham and this was the best cottage for location! Amazing views and enjoyed the cottage so much. A really brilliant week away. Morning sun out the front and evening sun in the back garden. Just perfect and very dog friendly. Ticked all the boxes and we will be back!" Sarah - 24th July 2020

“The Bevans Family here again including Bronwen (the dog). Arrived in a storm! Struggled to get everything across to the cottage dry but we did it. The log burner was a big warm treat for us. The weather is mixed but heading towards winter – so expected. Fab views as always. the most relaxing place to be in all weathers. This is our 7th visit to Dunedin so cannot complain when the weather has been good for the previous 6” The Bevan Family – 31 October 2019

“Fantastic location, large comfortable property with a wonderful garden lodge and views. We did park on the shore but if you pack carefully and there are enough of you a few trips along the river bed will take you to the car park and back, loo rolls etc all provided so just food and bits needed. We had a few wet days but its lovely to sit upstairs playing games whilst the rain beats down, we also sat in the lower room with our tea and looked out when it was bad using the outside chairs which we made sure were dry first it worked very well. There are a lot of stairs so you will definitely come home fit. The gardens are extremely well looked after and the views from the garden lodge veranda are fantastic, a real sun spot. You must go across to Greenway and of course the Anchorstone and FBI. If you haven’t been to Dittisham you really should, it is the most relaxing place, leave the car for a week and use the water taxi – just perfect but don’t tell everyone we will never get in!!” Caroline – September 2019

“Another stay – this time two weeks, sadly still not long enough. Thank you so much dear owners for letting us share your beautiful home and garden. We do so love ‘Ditsum’ and messing about on the river” Moirion and Dennis – 20 September 2019

“Paradise. Dittisham is idyllic and the cottage is in a prime position on the quay front. Very comfortable. The location and stairs would not suit those with mobility issues as the car must be parked far away and the stairs are steep but it was fine for us as we abandoned the car for a week and traveled around on the numerous ferries up and down the Dart and ate at the excellent nearby Anchorstone Cafe ( fish restaurant). Our second trip and we have booked again for next year.” Susan – 28 June – 5 July 2019

“Wonderful location!! Just happy to gaze out to the estuary!! Fabulous cottage sleeping all our family and friends” Sally – 21-28 June 2019

“Well we are back for another week at Dunedin. The weather has been mixed however, we know that Dunedin always delivers with the cosy wood burner and fabulous views, whatever the weather. We’ve had a few calm mornings whre we have been able to sit out front with tea and toast (our favourite pastime). We won’t be back now utnil Oct/Feb half term – if we can book in time! We love Dittisham out of season. The Bevan Family – 30 March – 6 April 2018

“What can I say – we booked our favourite holiday home, not expecting good weather (considering the time of the year) but what a wonderful week we’ve had! Warm – Sunny – quiet! Everything we would have hoped for in the summer, never mind February, having just dug our way out of the snow back home in the Cotswolds. This place never fails to impress us. We love Dunedin out of season because we love the tranquility and seclusion away from the hustle and bustle of Dartmouth. This is our 5th time at Dunedin – always in Oct/March or Feburary. Looking forward to our next visit” The Bevan Family – 10-17 February 2018

We spend the first weekend sharing the hosue with our family then they leave us to enjoy the rest of the week, messing about on the river. (They never want to leave) and who could blame them! We take our dinghy up and down to Dartmouth, Stoke Gabriel and beautiful Mill Creek. We have a fabulous time. Thank you owners for sharing your home. We hope to be back next year” Mearing Family – 22-29 September 2017
