Things To Do

Rocket House is a stunning, spacious, light-filled home in beautiful Dittisham. Ideal for big families, up to ten can enjoy a self-catering break. There’s a large open-plan living space and four bathrooms, parking for three cars, great river views and extensive outdoor areas – perfect for family meals and post-beach barbecues. Take a short stroll to the quay to enjoy the ambience of the Anchorstone Café or Ferry Boat Inn, go crabbing on the pontoon, or hop on a boat to explore the Dart Valley.

Accommodation:

From the driveway, the front door leads into a small porch to store boot and coats, then it's straight into the large dual-aspect open-plan kitchen, with river views, granite worktops, plentiful stylish kitchen units, two sinks, a microwave, a Nespresso coffee machine, Miele integrated under-counter fridge, freezer and dishwasher, a hob and oven, and a separate oven and grill with a second eye-level extra-large oven and grill.

The kitchen leads out onto a balcony with river views, a bistro set and steps down to the garden. The large sitting room has a smart TV and DVD player, an open fire, and triple-aspect windows with river views. The large dining room has an oak-painted dining table and seating for eight. Off the dining room, there is a small snug or children’s playroom with a TV and cloakroom with WC. From the playroom, there's the double garage housing the washing machine - and a ping-pong table.

Downstairs, there are four bedrooms with oak flooring throughout. The mezzanine landing has an additional WC. The very large master bedroom has a superking-size oak bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and dressing table, as well as a sofa bed (which can be configured on request at the time of booking). This bedroom also has patio doors to access the garden. The en suite wet room features a large walk-in shower, toilet, bidet, and wash basin.

The second bedroom has a kingsize bed, dressing table and en suite shower room. The third bedroom has a kingside bed with built-in wardrobe and an en suite shower room. The fourth bedroom is a twin bedroom with 2 single beds.

Across the corridor is a family bathroom with a bath and a WC.

A travel cot and high chair are available

There's central heating and an open fire for comfort (logs are supplied for Winter bookings).

Outside:

The garden can be accessed from the kitchen via the oak balcony where you'll find a large, gravelled entertaining area with a long wooden table and benches, and a Weber barbecue and firepit. Stone steps then lead down to a small play area for children with a 'living willow' teepee. The garden can also be accessed via the master and the third bedroom.

Parking:

There is space on the drive for 3 cars.

Nearby:

The village pub The Red Lion is a 5minute walk up the road. The Red Lion also hosts the village shop and post office. A 5 minute walk down the hill will take you to The Quay where you will find the Ferry Boat Inn and The Anchorstone Cafe as well as ferries to Greenway and Dartmouth.

Dittisham truly is a Devon gem. Nestled a few miles upstream from Dartmouth, this unspoiled and tranquil village is perfect for a relaxing riverside break and really makes the most of its waterside location. Watersports, fishing, sailing, paddle boarding and leisurely river rides are on your doorstep. Or why not hire a boat and explore the valley at your own pace?

On land, the shoreline meadow makes for a perfect picnic spot. Downstream by the jetty is The Ferry Boat Inn – drink and dine while enjoying picture-perfect views across the river valley beyond. It’s also where you can hire a canoe or kayak and paddle the river’s shallower waters.

Dittisham is also superbly connected by river to the Dart Valley’s must-see villages, towns, and attractions. Year-round frequent ferries take you to the historic port of Dartmouth, picturesque Kingswear and the eclectic charms of Totnes. And, just across the river on the opposite bank, a quick boat trip takes you to Agatha Christie’s resplendent Greenway holiday home and gardens, now cared for by the National Trust, and an idyllic day out.

"We were a family of 8( 2 children) who stayed for 6 nights at Rocket house. We had a great in such lovely accommodation in a perfect little village." - Cheryl - July 2023

"A wonderful setting for such a spacious house. So much room for our group, although we all liked squashing on the decking outside as the view was beautiful and it felt so serene out there. The rooms were all spacious and there were plenty of bathrooms for us all. Amazing to be able to walk down to the river dart for a quick dip in the morning, although a little muddy underfoot once in it felt lovely. Would love to stay again. Although, the roads are a little narrow and tricky, a more noticeable sign to the property would be good as all the party drove past it and had to reverse up the hill." - Loopy - July 2023

"This is a very lovely property with great views of the Dart. Warm & spacious with lots of bathrooms." - Cathy - April 2023

"Spacious “living spaces” which was important given our group size and the variable weather. Bedrooms and bathrooms entirely adequate. Ample parking a particular benefit as was an especially well equipped kitchen although refrigerator space might perhaps have been more generous. One or two small “irritations” but nothing one isn’t going to encounter in most establishments in this quality/price range in many parts of the world; however and as already pointed out to the agent: living room chair legs need repair before someone is injured; outside front door light not working. We would like to compliment the local “handyman” on his prompt (once alerted by the agent) assistance. Overall a good “consumer experience” and we would certainly consider a return visit and recommending this property to others." - David - December 2022

"Beautiful house, spacious for our family of 10 people that came from Germany and the Czech Republic for our small wedding ceremony in Devon. The house had everything we needed, great views, it was spotless clean. We were all comfortable and we had a great family time, in a beautiful village with beautiful walks and boat trips. We would definitely stay again. I wish we have had more time. Thank you Dart Valley Cottage's." - Karina - October 2022

"Rocket House is perfect for a family, in our case family plus their partners. Location is just up from the key which meant we could carry our kayak and paddle board down to the water with ease. The pub is excellent, really friendly with great home made pizzas. Good location for getting to Dartmouth both by car or ferry, also visited Stoke Gabriel a few times both by water and car where there is the lovely River Shack cafe and restaurant. Overall difficult to beat this property." - Peagam - October 2021

"A beautiful, spacious house with stunning views of the Dart estuary. Large kitchen, dining room and lounge, plenty of room for everyone. Bedrooms very comfortable. We enjoyed the outdoor space for bbq's and gathering around the fire pit. Manageable parking for 4 cars. Despite restrictions, enjoyed walking down to the pub and local cafe. Ferry access to Dartmouth a joy and plenty to do on the water. Would not hesitate to recommend." - Pacole - July 2021

"Rocket House was perfect for our family gathering, leading up to our son’s wedding at the local church. The layout, comfort & location were great. The staff at Dart Valley Cottages were friendly, knowledgable & attentive. Thank you!" - The Houses - July 2021

"This venue is ideal for a family of 10. Plenty of space, safe garden experience for families with small children. Lovely dining room with plenty of space. 5 minute walk to to River Dart. Well equipped. We as a family would rebook!" Dianne - August 2020

“Lovely big house. The house is very well equipped, modern, comfortable with lovely views and very well situated near the local shop and near pubs and ferry. Really lovely place the Dart Valley.
