Summary

The Shippon is brimming with personality. Eye-catching art adorns the walls. The sleek kitchen with range-style oven and hob is perfect for family mealtimes. The relaxing and refreshing bedrooms sleep up to four. Local amenities and the river are all within walking distance. The cottage sits within Dittisham Court’s four acres of communal gardens and grounds. There’s private parking, and dogs are also welcome.

Accommodation

The cottage is accessed via a small set of steps to the front door. Its reverse design means the two double bedrooms are on the lower floor. The shower on the ground floor also includes the washer-dryer. The staircase leads to the landing decorated with distinctive art and objéts. The stylishly relaxing sitting area with two sofas also features a smart TV. Behind is the dining area, which comfortably seats four, leading onto the kitchen space - sleek cabinets, large range-style oven, hob, and dishwasher. There is also a Nescafé Dolce Gusto coffee machine.

Outside, there are two allocated parking spaces. And pets are welcome to join you at The Shippon.

Nearby:

The village pub, The Red Lion Inn, is a 2-minute walk around the corner. The Red Lion also hosts the village shop and Post Office. A 10-minute walk will take you to The Quay, where you will find the Ferry Boat Inn and The Anchorstone Café, as well as ferries to the National Trust's Greenway house and gardens, and Dartmouth. Blackpool Sands is the closest beach - a 10-minute drive away.

Dittisham truly is a Devon gem. Nestled a few miles upstream from Dartmouth, this unspoiled and tranquil village is perfect for a relaxing riverside break and really makes the most of its waterside location. Watersports, fishing, sailing, paddle boarding and leisurely river rides are on your doorstep. Or why not hire a boat and explore the valley at your own pace?

On land, the shoreline meadow makes for a perfect picnic spot. Downstream by the jetty is The Ferry Boat Inn – drink and dine while enjoying picture-perfect views across the river valley beyond. It’s also where you can hire a canoe or kayak and paddle the river’s shallower waters.

Dittisham is also superbly connected by river to the Dart Valley’s must-see villages, towns, and attractions. Year-round frequent ferries take you to the historic port of Dartmouth, picturesque Kingswear and the eclectic charms of Totnes. And, just across the river on the opposite bank, a quick boat trip takes you to Agatha Christie’s resplendent Greenway holiday home and gardens, now cared for by the National Trust, and an idyllic day out.
We had a wonderful few days in Dittisham, staying in Shippon Cottage. The cottage was in a perfect location and was well equipped with everything we needed as well as being spotlessly clean and very stylish. I would definitely recommend it to others. The only small criticism is that the wifi never worked which wasn’t a problem for us but could be for others. Carole Maty 2024

Great stay in a wonderful cottage in Dittisham. The Shippon is fully equipped with everything you need, including a modern kitchen and bathroom. Close to pubs and great walks, as well as the ferries to Greenway and Dartmouth. Thanks again for a great stay! Jake March 2024

"Nice week at Shippon Cottage. Lovely clean cottage with comfy beds. Had problems with the WiFi connection which was frustrating (but now totally fixed). Well equipped bathroom. Generally would recommend" Nick - August 2023
