Lovely Cottage, perfect for two, with 4 adults it gets somewhat crowded. Wonderfull garden. We will come back next year. Christoph July 2024
It's a pretty cottage in a lovely position. Immaculately clean and tidy and very comfortable. Warm and cosy with plenty of hot water, an effective wood-burning stove. We were a family of four, and it suited us. I am confident in summer; the beautiful garden and patio area are a real treat. Very close to the car park for loading and unloading the car. I would highly recommend it. March 2024
"Thornwell Cottage is a beautiful old cottage that is full of character but with modern amenities. The bed in the master bedroom was extremely comfortable and the wood burner in the lounge made the downstairs very cosy.
Due to the weather we were unable to use the garden but we’d definitely return again". Louise, Jan 2024
"Thornwell Cottage is a lovely quiet little place with a beautiful garden in a superb setting. The interior design is very nicely done and everything works well. Great shower.
It's less than 10 minutes walk to the river side and access to ferries, which is great. The local pub, The Red Lion is a 2 minute walk away. It's has a very good provisions shop and post office. Andree Sept 2023
In a beautiful location. Garden is lovely Zelda 2023

"A really nice cottage in a picturesque village close to the river and to Dartmouth. The property has a fantastic garden which slopes upwards out of the village. Parking is nearby in a public car park which is fine. Overall nice house, lovely holiday." Matthew - July 2022
"Lovely cottage, good location. The village was lovely, there are two pubs and you can get a ferry (walkable from the cottage) to get to Dartmouth and Greenway cottage across the river Dart." - Richard - May 2022
"This is a lovely cottage for a relaxing break. We visited in November and found it very cosy and comfortable. It is a real home from home with all the facilities you could need from a set of egg cups to a washing machine! The public carpark nearby is very useful for secure, reasonably priced parking." Frances - November 2021
"Lovely little cottage in a beautiful area of South Devon. Comfy beds, well equipped kitchen, shower great. Car park nice and close. We had a great stay." - Cat - November 2021
"The Cottage is a characterful older building but with all the modern facilities and a large garden overlooking the river. The village has two pubs and community shop. Not really somewhere to go for activities - apart from sailing, fishing, etc - but very good for a relaxing stay "away from it all"." - Mike October 2021
"We loved our stay at Thornwell Cottage. Cosy, quaint, a lovely view from the garden. The dogs loved it too. The cottage is very conveniently located in the village. I want to come back!" - Macpherson - June 2021
"Thornwell has a large, steep garden, at the top of which there is a close view of the neighbours’ chicken coop, with a fine rooster. A temptation for dogs perhaps, but interesting for children. It is a characterful cottage, with a feeling of history, as it must be one of the older buildings in Ditisham. Nonetheless it is thoughtfully and comprehensively furnished with a light and fun approach to the decor. An easy-to-use log burner kept us warm in the evenings. The patio catches the evening sun and is secluded. The cottage sits at the crest of the lengthy hill down to the Dart river-bank, where there is a busy pub and restaurant. Social distancing inside these meant the road outside became crowded. It’s an effort to climb the hill back to the cottage. The road is so narrow and steep that cars are not convenient, especially as there is almost no turning, except on the stoney beach. Having said there is a car park (30 pounds a week) a few steps away from the cottage itself, making access to the supermarket near Dartmouth easy enough. There were plenty of other holiday residents in the village during our stay, and and there was a generally relaxed and sociable character to the surroundings." Hank - June 2021
"A lovely country cottage in a very nice location. Well presented with all necessary facilities. Delightful large garden with superb views. Parking only a short distance away. Will be very happy to repeat the experience." - Price - May 2021
"We enjoyed our first visit to this cottage. It suited us well . One suggestion would be to supply a small rack for drying clothes. The waste disposal procedures are very complicated!" Robert - September 2020
"The cottage was lovely with a huge garden and lovely terrace to sit out on. We liked the village which was quiet and easy to get to Dartmouth by ferry. Also good walks on either side of the estuary. We were lucky to have fantastic weather." Danny - August 2020

“We have had the perfect relaxing week in a very homely and cosy cottage, and it was a particular privilege to enjoy the big beautiful garden and tasty plumbs. Rooms were so beautifully done and very cosy beds to snuggle up in. It was our third time down in Dittisham and we still absolutely loved it, both pubs were fabulous and such pretty yet steep walks! At 18 years old I still went crabbing- unfortunately only 50 crabs in total, think I’m getting too old to be so successful! Thank you so much” The Meadows, Buckinghamshire – August 2017

Dittisham truly is a Devon gem. Nestled a few miles upstream from Dartmouth, this unspoiled and tranquil village is perfect for a relaxing riverside break and really makes the most of its waterside location. Watersports, fishing, sailing, paddle boarding and leisurely river rides are on your doorstep. Or why not hire a boat and explore the valley at your own pace?
On land, the shoreline meadow makes for a perfect picnic spot. Downstream by the jetty is The Ferry Boat Inn – drink and dine while enjoying picture-perfect views across the river valley beyond. It’s also where you can hire a canoe or kayak and paddle the river’s shallower waters.
Dittisham is also superbly connected by river to the Dart Valley’s must-see villages, towns, and attractions. Year-round frequent ferries take you to the historic port of Dartmouth, picturesque Kingswear and the eclectic charms of Totnes. And, just across the river on the opposite bank, a quick boat trip takes you to Agatha Christie’s resplendent Greenway holiday home and gardens, now cared for by the National Trust, and an idyllic day out.
