Dartmouth and Dittisham host a number of pubs and restaurants that welcome pets as well as a dog-friendly festival in August – ‘Woofstock’ – making this the perfect spot to book dog-friendly accommodation.

There are also many dog-friendly attractions in Dartmouth and the surrounding area including National Trust properties, Dartmouth Castle, as well as ferry and steam train rides.

Pet Friendly Top 10 – Things To Do

Walking the coast path and Dart Valley Trail

Dartmouth and the surrounding area have some fabulous walks. Passing directly through Dartmouth the South West Coast Path is the perfect way to explore this fantastic stretch of coastline. With several different circular routes available taking in some great vantage points along the way, great for you and your 4 legged companion. The Dart Valley Trail runs up and down either side of the River Dart up to Totnes and back, This can be broken up with the various village pub pitstops along the way and ferries home if the legs have had enough.

Dog Friendly Beaches

Slapton Sands is the closest beach that is 100% dog friendly year round. There are 3 parking areas spread across the length of the beach all with toilets. Blackpool Sands is dog friendly from November to April. Further afield is Beesands which is dog friendly year round.

Fast Rabbit Farm

These beautiful gardens occupy 43 acres of the peaceful Strawberry Valley, with a wide range of plants and habitats that make the most of every season. Located just outside Dartmouth, dogs are welcome on leads at no extra cost.

Greenway and Coleton

Dogs are welcome to explore the gardens of these two National Trust properties near Dartmouth. Greenway on the banks of the Dart near Dittisham and can be accessed via ferry from Dartmouth (parking is limited) and Coleton Fishacre on the south west coast path just outside Kingswear.

River Cruises

All aboard! Dogs too! Hop on a circular river cruise to take you out to the mouth of the river to see the castles from a different perspective then back up the river to the picture postcard village of Dittisham on the banks of the Dart.

House of Marbles

Located in Bovey Tracey on the edge of Dartmoor. This free attraction is pet friendly, the site was originally a pottery and is now the home of a historic collection of marbles and marble making memorabilia as well as on site glass blowing workshop.

Walkies on Dartmoor National Park

This vast moorland is packed with some incredible walks, breath taking views and picturesque picnic spots. All 100% dog friendly however they may need to be kept on leads around the wild ponies that roam the moor.

Sharpham Vinyard

Located on the banks of the Dart just outside the neighbouring village of Ashprington. Sharpham has been producing award winning wines and cheeses for years, dogs are welcome on tours of the vineyard as well as tastings of their wines and cheeses.

Dartmouth Castle

Located at the mouth of the river this English Heritage site has stood for over 600 years protecting the town of Dartmouth. See the cannons and armaments, climb to the top of the battlement for splendid views of Dartmouth and the estuary. Dogs are welcome on leads.

Round Robin

A fabulous way for you and the pooch to see the area in one day, the Round Robin comprises of a steam train journey to Paignton, an open top bus journey to Totnes and a river cruise back to Dartmouth (or visa versa depending on tide times). The perfect way to see the dart valley from a different perspective.

The Dartmouth Arms

Located at the entrance to Bayards Cove, dogs are welcome year round, even better in the summer when they’ll serve you food up takeaway styles so you can sit outside and enjoy.

Café Alf Resco

The best spot in Dartmouth for breakfast, a local spot you must visit. Dogs are more than welcome, the occasional sausage will even get chucked their way if they’re good.

The Cherub

One of the oldest pubs in Dartmouth, a lovely cosy spot with a great atmosphere, especuially when the fire is going in the winter.

The Anchorstone Café

This seasonal spot is only open from April to October locally known  for its food and its location overlooking the river from Dittisham quayside, a lively fresh menu that includes local seafood.

The FBI

Locate down on The Quay in the village of Dittisham. This waterside pub offers a simple menu in a great location.

The Maltsters Arms

Located down on Bow Creek in Tuckenhay, The Maltsters Inn is the perfect spot whether it’s a sunny afternoon out by the water or a post winter walk on the Dart Valley Trail.

Dog friendly Events

Woofstock

A relatively new festival in Dartmouth, as the name suggest this is a dog friendly festival returning for it’s second year; with live music, demonstrations and competitions, this day will certainly get tails wagging. 16th – 18th August 2019.

Dartmouth Food Festival

With local exhibitors, all manner of street food and cooking demonstrations from top chefs; this is a must visit weekend for any foodie, it’s all outside so dogs ae welcome too. 18th – 20th October 2019.

Rock on the Beach

Throughout the summer on the first Sunday of each month the quiet quayside is the setting for a live band, always a brilliant way to see out the weekend, hosted by the FBI, paddling is encouraged.

Dittisham Regatta

The pretty quayside is  transforms into a hive of activity with sailing, rowing, kids games and competitions, stalls and a bbq, a village day enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

Dart Music Festival

Over in the neighbouring town of Dartmouth almost every pub becomes a music venue. This music filled weekend hosts a spectrum of musical performances with something for everyone. 15th – 17th May 2020.

Dartmouth Regatta

The Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta as it is formally known is the time the whole town comes together for a week of rowing and sailing, funfair, Live music and topped off with fireworks –  30th August – 1st September.
