Things To Do

Barnfield is a pet-friendly home within a barn conversion, providing comfortable accommodation for four guests, with two bedrooms and two newly refurbished bathrooms. Neutrals and pastels create warmth throughout, while the newly renovated kitchen is ideal for preparing tasty breakfasts to delicious suppers. There is also access to four acres of communal gardens which include an orchard and several vantage points over the unspoiled village of Dittisham. There’s also parking for two cars.

Accommodation:

French windows from the parking area lead into the large open-plan living area, a light and airy modern space with wooden flooring and distinctive lounge, dining and kitchen areas. The high ceiling and exposed roof trusses retain the traditional barn conversion feel. The lounge area has two sofas and an armchair as well as a smart TV with a DVD player, and a separate CD/radio.

The new kitchen is on the far side of the room and has an electric cooker, hob, washer-dryer, dishwasher, microwave, Nespresso Vertuo coffee machine, a fridge, and a freezer.

The dining area between the two seats four.

Stairs lead down from the living room to the bedrooms and bathrooms. There are two good-sized bedrooms - the first is an en suite with a kingsize bed, dressing table and built-in wardrobe. The en-suite includes a bath with an overhead shower and a heated towel rail. The second bedroom also has a kingsize bed which can be configured as two single beds upon request at the time of booking.

There is also a second bathroom on the ground floor with a shower and WC.

There's central heating throughout.

Outside:

There is a small decked area outside the front door with a bistro table and seating for four people Steps lead down from the deck to a small paved area ideal for storing bikes or kayaks. Guests also have access to the four acres of communal ground on Dittisham Court which include large grassy areas with vantage points over Bow Creek and over towards The Quay, as well as the orchard at the bottom. Guests are welcome to exercise dogs on the grounds however we ask they are kept on leads.

Parking:

The two allocated parking spaces are opposite the front door.

Larger Groups

Barnfield is part of a group of properties that can accommodate 24 guests in total (Damson, Primose, Willow, Orchard, and Shippon End can each host up to four guests). So, if you are planning a trip as a family and are looking to accommodate a larger family we may well be able to help you. All properties are within a short walk of each other (some neighbouring). Nearby:

The village pub The Red Lion Inn is a 5-minute walk around the corner, The Red Lion also hosts the village shop and Post Office. A 10-minute walk will take you to The Quay where you will find the Ferry Boat Inn and The Anchorstone Café as well as ferries to the National Trust's Greenway house and gardens, and Dartmouth. The closest beach is Blackpool Sands a 10-minute drive away.

Dittisham truly is a Devon gem. Nestled a few miles upstream from Dartmouth, this unspoiled and tranquil village is perfect for a relaxing riverside break and really makes the most of its waterside location. Watersports, fishing, sailing, paddle boarding and leisurely river rides are on your doorstep. Or why not hire a boat and explore the valley at your own pace?

On land, the shoreline meadow makes for a perfect picnic spot. Downstream by the jetty is The Ferry Boat Inn – drink and dine while enjoying picture-perfect views across the river valley beyond. It’s also where you can hire a canoe or kayak and paddle the river’s shallower waters.

Dittisham is also superbly connected by river to the Dart Valley’s must-see villages, towns, and attractions. Year-round frequent ferries take you to the historic port of Dartmouth, picturesque Kingswear and the eclectic charms of Totnes. And, just across the river on the opposite bank, a quick boat trip takes you to Agatha Christie’s resplendent Greenway holiday home and gardens, now cared for by the National Trust, and an idyllic day out.

Barnfield is in such a great location, especially if you want to get away from it all. So peaceful, and stunning views of the River Dart from the communal gardens. Everywhere is very well kept around the site, and it is also the perfect base to walk down to the river at Dittisham, where you can catch a ferry to both Greenway & Dartmouth. We have visited Dittisham many times, and all agree that Barnfield was one of the best accommodations we have stayed in. Clare August 2024

I am so pleased I chose Barnfield Cottage. It feels well thought out and homely; I really enjoyed the space; the accommodation felt clean and comfortable; and I personally loved the layout; it was lovely and bright, a good use of space and lighting. Thank you for the fresh milk; this was appreciated. A spotless kitchen with plenty of everything you need. The parking in front was perfect for unloading. The grounds are well maintained, and the area is so so peaceful. The views are breath-taking, with lovely sunsets perfect view for sitting outside with a glass of wine. Dittisham is so peaceful and beautiful I didn't want to leave. There are lovely pubs and walks nearby. A great base and a short drive to Dartmouth, Totnes, Blackpool sands and Salcombe breathtaking scenery, beautiful villages. Sainsburys is only a short drive away for a big shop. Fab communication from the lovely host. All in all, a gem find and a perfect stay. Thank you for a wonderful break. April 2024

"Barnfield is in a lovely location and the property is in good condition inside. One or two problems - bathroom heated towel rail not working and a mirror would be useful in the other bathroom. It would have been nice to have a welcome pack!" - Robert - October 2022

Thank you Dart Valley Cottages. Another enjoyable week spent in Dittisham (I relax completely as soon as I arrive in this wonderful little village). It is always the beds that I am concerned about when renting a property. No complaints in that department, they were so comfortable.Barnfield was perfect!" - Samantha - June 2022

"Barnfield is a beautiful upside down cottage, very well equipped with plenty of quality crockery and cutlery. Lovely pictures and ornaments dotted around, plus books and DVD's, making it very homely. The second bedroom however is a twin, not a double as stated in the description." - Bloor - February 2022

"Another great stay at Barnfield, clean, comfortable, spacious in a great location with superb views. Shame the weather could not have been better, but an enjoyable time was had by all. Look forward to going back." - Timms - May 2021

."What a beautiful location. A short steep climb necessary to reach this ingenious barn conversion, but well worth it, as it has created a fantastic view from the front porch. Saw some really spectacular sunsets during our all too short stay. Enjoyed the comfortable living area with its two settees to stretch out on whilst watching the TV. Soft carpeting throughout. I quite enjoyed going "downstairs" to bed!" - Middle - May 21

"Barnfield was everything we wanted for a comfortable New Year break. The cottage was warm, spacious, well-equipped, nicely decorated & furnished. The 2 parking spaces were invaluable. A choice of 2 pubs to walk to with a short & not too steep walk on the pavement to the foreshore. We enjoyed good food at the Ferry Boat Inn while the shop at The Red Lion was well-stocked even on New Year’s Day. We were also pleased to find that the ferry to Dartmouth runs on demand even in the depths of winter. Just give them a call. Excellent all round!" January 2020
