Things To Do

3 Bell Court is a substantial apartment with all the charm you could hope for while staying in historic Dartmouth. From the cobblestone path, through a wrought iron gate, is this generously-sized apartment set in a tranquil location, tucked away behind the historic market square. This is a much sought-after holiday home. Dartmouth’s delights are all within very easy reach. Peruse the artisanal stalls and try something different for dinner, complemented with some Dartmouth Gin or delicious Devon fudge.

The famous cobbled Foss Street - arguably one of the most photographed streets in England - is a very short walk from the apartment with its selection of independent shops and, of course, many cafes, pubs and restaurants close by. Not far from the end of Foss Street, you will find yourself in Royal Avenue Gardens with its splendid bandstand in the centre, often the focus for local entertainers and musicians. Bell Court is positioned just a couple of streets back from the Embankment with its charming walk all the way along from the Higher Ferry to the historic Lower Ferry, with ample opportunity for all types of refreshments on the way! Dartmouth itself is positioned within the South Hams, with easy access to other towns and villages, including eclectic Totnes, and head over the water towards Brixham and the English Riviera, where seal and dolphin watching is a regular pastime.

The relaxed feel of 3 Bell Court is apparent after a day out with its ample space for a family meal and comfy seating area in the sitting room. In addition, there is an outside patio area for evening drinks and nibbles, or indeed an area for morning coffee. Please keep noise must also be kept to a minimum as sound travels easily within the courtyard area.

Summary

3 Bell Court is a cosy apartment for six guests to enjoy Dartmouth and the wider South Hams. 3 Bell Court's location is perfect; it sits on a quiet street in the very heart of Dartmouth town and is a flat-level walk to all the town amenities, This makes it a perfect place to park the car and enjoy a peaceful holiday in close proximity to the town itself. The historic market square is a short walk from the front door, as is the pedestrianised shopping street Foss Street, which has a wonderful selection of individual shops and galleries. Up a flight of external stairs and one flight of internal stairs, 3 Bell Court boasts 3 double bedrooms, a comfortable sitting room, a well-equipped kitchen-diner and bathroom plus an additional w/c.

Accommodation

On entering the property, the hallway runs the length of the property. Immediately in front of you is the cosy living room with two comfortable sofas, and a TV with PlayStation 3 - a truly comfortable space after a busy day.

Next to the lounge, the first bedroom has a double bed, wardrobe and drawers. There are also two further double bedrooms with ample space and comfort.

The kitchen-diner comfortably seats six. The well-equipped kitchen has an integrated fridge, freezer, and dishwasher and is a welcoming space for all the family to enjoy, with plenty of room for preparing delicious meals and enjoying quality time.

The family bathroom at the rear has a bath with an overhead shower and is also where you'll find the washing machine. Next to the bathroom is an additional cloakroom and WC.

Please note that the outside steps to access 3 Bell Court may be hazardous for unattended small children or for people with mobility problems.

Bell Court shares a lovely courtyard with permanent residents, and we respectfully ask that noise be kept to a minimum after 11pm when using the outside patio area.

Parking

There is a parking permit supplied for the Mayors Avenue Car Park. The permit does not guarantee a parking space, and it can get very busy during the summer and special events, such as the Royal Regatta week (during which the car park is closed).

Dartmouth is a town steeped in maritime history, from the castle at the mouth of the river that has stood for over 600 years to the cobbled quayside at Bayards Cove where the Mayflower was made ship-shape before its voyage from Plymouth to America in the 1600s, up to the imposing Britannia Royal Naval College overlooking the town, defending the nation's seas since the early 1900s.

Dartmouth's renowned variety of shops and restaurants are on your doorstep, including breakfast and brunch hotspot Café Alf Resco - a hit with locals and visitors alike. At Bayards Cove, see where final repairs were made to the Mayflower before she set sail from Plymouth and onto America. On the riverside, you're spoilt for choice for seafood dining and drinks while you watch the boats drift along the river. There are also fast, frequent ferries, leisurely boat rides, and not forgetting the steam train from Kingswear and its romantic route along the valley shoreline and onto Totnes and Torbay.

Dining Out

Vibrant cafés and delis, cosy inns, and sublime seafood - all within walking distance - including TV chef Mitch Tonks' go-to restaurants, ‘The Seahorse’ and ‘Rockfish’. Local favourites include Kendrick’s and Taylor's in the town centre, as well as hearty pub meals at The Floating Bridge and historic The Dartmouth Arms. The Sportsman’s Arms, as you head out of town, is a favourite for a Sunday carvery. The surrounding villages also have culinary gems, such as the Laughing Monk in Strete, and Radius 7 in Stoke Fleming.

Bell cottage was lovely, very clean and smelt beautiful with lovely Dartmouth Candles diffusers in the rooms it is in a perfect town centre location. We would return. Shirley Aug 2024

"This was a last minute booking which can be a risk but we needn't have worried. The apartment was immaculate, well furnished with lovely pictures making it a real home from home. The photo's on the website really don't do it justice. Very comfortable and spacious. The service from Dart Valley staff was excellent. A small issue with a table leg was resolved within an hour of reporting it and very pleasantly so. The apartment is situated in the centre of the town, tucked away just off Foss Street, home to many quality shops and galleries and ideal for enjoying all that Dartmouth has to offer. Hope to return to 3 Bell Courts again soon." - Tim - July 2023

"The location was perfect for us as we wanted to be right in the centre of Dartmouth. Knowing parking can be an issue in the town centre we were thrilled to be able to use the parking permit left in the property for our use during our stay. Accommodation was set up for six people and had absolutely everything we needed. The three double bedrooms were well appointed and the beds were comfortable. The building is very old but the flat was clean, light and airy with a contemporary feel. We were able to do exactly what we had wanted; park the car and walk around the town." Josie - June 2023

"Good location and well equipped. Plenty of space.: - Ian June -2023

"We very much enjoyed our stay in Dartmouth and the apartment was as advertised and worked very well for our family of five. We did have a couple of issues while we were there - understanding the heating system and the kettle broke - but the company managing the property were very responsive when we had an issue." -Victoria - April 2022
