Nestled in the heart of historic Dartmouth, Cherub Cottage is a charming Grade II listed holiday cottage that combines centuries of character with modern comfort. Situated just a short stroll from Dartmouth's picturesque waterfront, independent shops, award-winning restaurants and maritime attractions, this delightful dog-friendly retreat offers guests the opportunity to experience one of South Devon's most sought-after coastal destinations from a truly special setting.
Dating from the 18th or early 19th century, Cherub Cottage forms part of Dartmouth's rich architectural heritage. The cottage is particularly noted for its elegant bow windows and retains many original features that reflect the town's fascinating history as a thriving port on the River Dart. Despite its central location, the property enjoys a peaceful tucked-away position, providing a tranquil haven away from the bustle of the town centre whilst benefiting from the rare advantage of private off-street parking.
Step through the wooden gate into the enchanting walled courtyard garden, where mature shrubs and trees create a secluded suntrap. This magical outdoor space is perfect for enjoying a leisurely breakfast, a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine after a day exploring Dartmouth, the South West Coast Path or the beautiful South Devon coastline.
Inside, the cottage effortlessly blends period charm with contemporary styling. The welcoming lounge features a beautiful bay window with a window seat overlooking the garden, creating the perfect spot to curl up with a book. A characterful listed fireplace with inset gas fire provides a cosy focal point for relaxing evenings, whilst the SMART TV offers modern entertainment.
Opposite, the well-equipped kitchen and dining room provide everything needed for a comfortable self-catering stay. Shaker-style units house an electric oven, induction hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer and washing machine, alongside a Nespresso coffee machine for your morning brew. The dining area enjoys garden views through a further bay window and features a round dining table ideal for gathering together after a day of adventure.
Ascending to the first floor, guests are greeted by the cottage's famous resident, Albert the Mouse, inspired by "The Mouse Who Wanted to See the World" by local author James Hywel. The first bedroom is furnished with a luxurious super-king zip-and-link bed, which can be configured as twins on request, and features a cleverly concealed en-suite shower and washbasin. Across the landing, the second bedroom offers a comfortable double bed. The family bathroom provides a peaceful space to unwind, complete with a bath and shower over, washbasin and WC, whilst a separate cloakroom adds convenience.
Continue to the atmospheric attic snug, a delightful hideaway beneath the eaves where guests can escape with a good book, enjoy some quiet time or simply admire the views stretching across Dartmouth's rooftops towards Kingswear.
Outside, the enclosed courtyard garden offers a private and sunny space to relax amongst mature planting. Bistro dining furniture and bench seating provide the perfect setting for al fresco meals or simply soaking up the peaceful surroundings.
For guests bringing a vehicle, a private garage is available within a five-minute walk of the property – a highly sought-after feature in central Dartmouth. The garage is best suited to small or medium-sized cars, whilst additional on-street parking may be available nearby.
Cherub Cottage warmly welcomes small to medium-sized dogs, making it an excellent choice for couples, friends and families looking to explore Dartmouth and the stunning South Devon coast with their four-legged companion.
Whether you're discovering Dartmouth Castle, taking a river cruise along the Dart, enjoying coastal walks to Blackpool Sands or simply soaking up the atmosphere of this beautiful harbour town, Cherub Cottage provides an unforgettable base steeped in history, character and charm.

Dartmouth is a town steeped in maritime history, from the castle at the mouth of the river that has stood for over 600 years to the cobbled quayside at Bayards Cove where the Mayflower was made ship-shape before its voyage from Plymouth to America in the 1600s, up to the imposing Britannia Royal Naval College overlooking the town, defending the nation's seas since the early 1900s.
Dartmouth's renowned variety of shops and restaurants are on your doorstep, including breakfast and brunch hotspot Café Alf Resco - a hit with locals and visitors alike. At Bayards Cove, see where final repairs were made to the Mayflower before she set sail from Plymouth and onto America. On the riverside, you're spoiled for choice for seafood dining and drinks while you watch the boats drift along the river. There are also fast, frequent ferries, leisurely boat rides, and not forgetting the steam train from Kingswear and its romantic route along the valley shoreline and onto Totnes and Torbay.
Dining Out
Vibrant cafés and delis, cosy inns, and sublime seafood - all within walking distance - including TV chef Mitch Tonks' go-to restaurants, ‘The Seahorse’ and ‘Rockfish’. Local favourites include Kendrick’s and Taylor's in the town centre, as well as hearty pub meals at The Floating Bridge and historic The Dartmouth Arms. The Sportsman’s Arms, as you head out of town, is a favourite for a Sunday carvery.

From Totnes, the English Riviera is easily accessible (including the steam train to Paignton). Torbay offers golden beaches, exhilarating sea sports, and quaint fishing port tranquillity. Head inland to Buckfastleigh to get hands-on learning about the animals at Pennywell Farm. Cute and colourful, Buckfast Butterflies and otter sanctuary is a must-see. A beautiful house in immaculate condition in a great location Edgar June 2026
Very central. Not sure we had to walk more than 100m to an array of fabulous restaurants. Stunning view from the top room. Narrow street with two pubs in sight, some noise but expected based on where it is. House was lovely, has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Booking and all instructions were really clear and simple. Definitely on the list for a return visit Malcolm June 2026
Cherub Cottage lives up to its name. Fantastic location, beautifully decorated and everything provided to make it a gorgeous stay. We will definitely be back Emma May 2026
Stayed 5 nights with our daughter. Could not have been nicer. Parking is a bit away but fine to park on the street if no signs, like we did. Very pleasant and welcoming cottage , loved the third floor for relaxing with views over town Jeff May 2026
Splendid cottage , well appointed and close to all that Dartmouth has to offer. Would definitely return. Thank you Wendy April 2026
Cherub Cottage contains 2 good sized bedrooms, one with a built in wardrobe, the second bedroom has just a stand for hanging clothing, which was fine for our short stay. The main bedroom has a shower and sink in its en-suite, the family bathroom has a bath with a shower over, a sink and toilet. The cottage is very well presented and very clean. The kitchen is excellent, well equipped with appliances, including a dishwasher and plenty of cooking utensils. The sitting room contains a small stylish sofa, with a matching chair and a low armchair, which for a night in watching TV didn’t prove very comfortable for 3 adults. There is a very nice sitting area in the front garden of the Cottage.
Opposite the Cottage there is the Cherub Inn, which is a very good place to eat and drink and is very friendly. Parking is a little difficult as Dartmouth is a very popular venue. Susan December 2025
We enjoyed our stay in this accommodation and would recommend it to others.
Awesome house and great location to explore Dartmouth from. Jim December 2025

A lovely and spacious cottage in the centre of Dartmouth Ellie August 2025
Lovely cottage, very comfortable and well equipped, right in the centre of Dartmouth and within walking distance of all amenities. We were pleasantly surprised on our arrival by a bottle of bubbly and tea, coffee and biscuits, which was a nice touch by the owners. Responses to our questions were quick and efficient. We'd definitely recommend at least one of the boat trips and we loved the walk around the castle and along part of the South West coast path. There was no need to use the car at all. A word of caution about the garage - whilst it's a standard size, it's in a narrow lane with a tight turning circle. Our vehicle was 1.8m wide and 4.5m long and we managed to reverse it into the garage with care, not least as the distance between the posts left only a few cm each side of the wing mirrors. Take care also when replacing the garage key fob in the key safe as it's a tight fit. Ela July 2025
The owner and agent were super responsive. Congratulations.James July 2025
Had a great stay! Reggie did lots of swimming on the National Trust Beach at South Milton as dogs are allowed there! Weather was fabulous for our stay.

Great house, centre of Dartmouth. Lovely open plan living area and front courtyard. Kitchen well equipped. A bottle of fizz for a welcome drink and tea coffee and milk also appreciated. Only issue we had was the parking/garage was too small for our car. It was difficult to access and only suitable for a small car which was unfortunate when parking is at a premium in Dartmouth. Would have benefited from a parking permit.
