Dartmouth is a town steeped in maritime history, from the castle at the mouth of the river that has stood for over 600 years to the cobbled quayside at Bayards Cove where the Mayflower was made ship-shape before its voyage from Plymouth to America in the 1600s, up to the imposing Britannia Royal Naval College overlooking the town, defending the nation's seas since the early 1900s.

Dartmouth's renowned variety of shops and restaurants are on your doorstep, including breakfast and brunch hotspot Café Alf Resco - a hit with locals and visitors alike. At Bayards Cove, see where final repairs were made to the Mayflower before she set sail from Plymouth and onto America. On the riverside, you're spoiled for choice for seafood dining and drinks while you watch the boats drift along the river. There are also fast, frequent ferries, leisurely boat rides, and not forgetting the steam train from Kingswear and its romantic route along the valley shoreline and onto Totnes and Torbay.

Head inland to Buckfastleigh to get hands-on learning about the animals at Pennywell Farm. Cute and colourful, Buckfast Butterflies and otter sanctuary is a must-see. We enjoyed our week in Dartmouth very much indeed. The property was well equipped and the balcony was perfect bearing in mind the very nice weather. The location was good and we kept fit walking down into town and back again most days. The only negative points for us were the very steep drive ( we tended to leave our car on the road) and the large hole in the fireplace where a fire (or something decorative) should have been. Richard July 2024

Lovely position and well kept. The veranda is perfect for sitting on a sunny day. All the cooking equipment you will ever need.. lounge a bit tired and TV small but nothing that would put me off staying here again.Lyndsey July 2024

"This property is ‘a little gem’ and has it’s own drive for several cars, a rarity in Dartmouth. It is comfy, well equipped in a lovely, quiet location. The views from the lounge & balcony are wonderful. Easy access into Dartmouth via park & ride or bus, with local supermarkets minutes away. We really enjoyed our week and will definitely return." - David - September 2022

"Accommodation very clean with excellent view of Dartmouth, Kingswear, River Dart and steam trains coming and going. Kitchen very well equipped and there is a dishwasher although this isn't mentioned in the details on the website. We chose this accommodation as my husband has difficulty walking and it was ideal. There are two steps up to the front door but everything inside is on the level including a walk in shower." Christopher - September 2022

"The Dart Valley Cottages agency was particularly responsive and attentive to our rental search and our arrival on site. All that remained was to put down our suitcases and enjoy an exceptional view of Dartmouth and the Dart river, probably one of the most admirable sites on the Devon coast. In short, we were very close to paradise!" Pierre - August 2022

"The bungalow was everything as advertised. Very clean, well equipped. Location & view excellent. Would certainly recommend & Would stay again." - Richard - June 2022

"We had a wonderful stay, great view. Very clean, everything you needed provided. Location good for driving to different locations Torquay Teignmouth etc . Also on a bus route, If you feel the walk from Dartmouth a little steep . We walked a lot while we were there and found different routes into Dartmouth & back. Would like to visit again" - Nick - September 2021

"Great time everything you would need in place walk down the hill is ok but a bit more challenging going back up taxi or number 3 bus is the more likely option would definitely think about using again booking was very easy staff very help full all in a great place" - Steven - July 2021

Fantastic views, photos didn't do it justice. Nice quiet street with room for parking if you didn't want to use the steep driveway. House better equipped than advertised, including a dishwasher, nespresso machine and access to a tumbler dryer. Beds comfortable. Double bed is two single beds locked together which makes a super king. A travel cot was kindly provided. Overall we were pleased with our stay and would happily stay there again! - Corla - June 2021

"This property certainly exceeded our expectations. The view over Dartmouth, the river and the countryside from the main rooms and the balcony is exceptional. Immaculately clean, with everything needed to cook and eat properly. The road is quiet and the walk down into the town, although steep, is through picturesque streets. We went kayaking or sailing on the river each day, and also did a couple of long walks directly from the house." - Huw - June 2021

"We stayed at 15 church fields 2 years ago and loved it so much we booked it again for this year again as soon as we walked in to the lounge and saw the views across the dart valley we felt at home shame about the weather but made the most of our weeks stay" - Barbara May 21

"Excellent position with views over river and town, own parking, and good bus service back up the hill from the town centre, or to other parts of the county. The ability to have the main bedroom as twin beds is good. Since last year a lot has been done to improve the decoration, etc inside and out and now only a few small areas are less than perfect. Rather sparse inside because of coronavirus restrictions but the property can't be blamed for that. Great service from Dart Valley Cottages when coronavirus disrupted bookings." Edwin - September 2020

"Lovely, clean and comfortable house with outstanding views. Great, panoramic views of the steam trains too. As good as it looks in the photos. Parking in Dartmouth itself fills up very quickly! We used the park and ride on occasions for a longer stay." Mike - September 2020

"We were delighted with the view. A very comfortable and relaxing place to stay with outstanding views with dual aspect windows from living room, and doors from kitchen opening on to a stunning balcony area. Views down to Dartmouth and over the countryside. Enjoyed watching from the property, the steam train coming in and out at Kingswear. Kitchen very well equipped and beds very comfortable. We liked it being within walking distance of Dartmouth, the hill certainly helped keep us fit. We thoroughly recommend this place and hope to return." Anita - August 2020

"Great view and location. Clean, tidy with everything we could ask for. Highly recommend! Perfect for us." Kelly - July 2020

"A spacious bungalow at the top of town with amazing views from the lounge and balcony of Dartmouth and surrounding countryside. It is a steep ten minute walk back up from town but there are bus routes nearby. A great comfortable, very peaceful base to explore all that Dartmouth and the local area has to offer. Great value for money given the location." Sean - July 2020

"
Everything was fantastic, views stunning. Was immaculate when we arrived. Only issue beds were too hard" Adie - December 2019

“Comfortable, well equipped accommodation in a peaceful setting, with wonderful views.” Rosemary and Dan – 29 June – 6 July 2019

“A lovely stay in Dartmouth at your wonderful house – very comfortable and homely – everything you needed! and of course the amazing view! Hope to be a back” Den and Louise – June 2019

“We have had a very enjoyable week with weather not too bad. We have rented holiday accommodation in the Dartmouth area for over 20 years and like to find places to return to. On the strengh of our first visit this could be such a place if the standard is maintained. There are many strong points such as the location, views, parking, comfortable furniture and flexible twin/double beds in the main bedroom.” Teri and Jenny 25 May – 1 June 2019

“Fantastic views and comfortable beds with quality bedding.” J Goode – 18-25 May 2019

“Located on a quiet housing estate, with beautiful views over town, good value for money. The bungalow was situated on a housing estate on the outskirts of Dartmouth, with excellent views across the valley and river. Provided you could cope with steep paths and steps it was easy to walk into the town (15 mins) where there was plenty of opportunity to take boat trips, or browse the local shops which were located in quaint narrow streets. The local supermarkets were within a short drive from the bungalow and although small, they catered for your needs quite adequately.
The bungalow itself was comfortable and clean and generally not in bad condition. The drive which drops down the side of the property is very steep, so cannot be used unless you have good ground clearance. We parked on the road all week!” John 4-11 May 2019

“Perfect location in Dartmouth. Never having been to the area before we quickly established that Dartmouth would be a parking nightmare and so we looked for somewhere with parking, views and within 15 mins stroll into town. (Downhill all the way and if not wanting the walk back up, taxi bill was £5.) 15 Churchfields fitted the bill. We weren’t disappointed. On arrival the house was clean, modern, light and airy. The views from the lounge were stunning and the balcony off the kitchen with bi-fold doors doubled the space. Either with cup of coffee or glass of wine in hand, much time was spent just looking across at the countryside and down to Dartmouth Harbour; it was like watching a permanently moving model village with boats and steam trains coming and going. The kitchen was well equipped. The bedrooms had good quality bedding and were spacious. Boxes of toys were in the twin bedroom. It was all very thoughtfully equipped. Decoration was light and modern. All designed to make for a very relaxing stay. Parking was down the steep drive at the side of the house with turning area at the bottom; low suspension cars would ground on the lip of the pavement but there is plenty of parking on the road outside. The neighbours were very friendly. Lovely week – we were just sad to leave!” Susan – 13-20 April 2019

“We loved the views from the deck area and overall found the property to be comfortable and well located.” Claire – 30 March – 6 April 2019

“A very nice property with excellent amenities, comfy beds, spacious rooms, Netflix and smart TV, on the drive parking and great views.” Michael – January 2019

“Comfortable, clean and lovely outside seating area.” Sarah – November 2018

“A very enjoyable holiday in a beautiful part of the country and staying in a very comfortable and well furnished flat with lovely views over the estuary. We hope to return some time” Alison and Margaret – 22-29 September 2018

“We all enjoyed our stay very much. The house is beautiful with very large windows and fantastic balcony to enjoy the wonderful views over the estuary. The weather was great and so we visited lots of places. All in all a very enjoyable holiday and a great place to stay in” The Grant Family – 18-25 August 2018
