Dittisham truly is a Devon gem. Nestled a few miles upstream from Dartmouth, this unspoiled and tranquil village is perfect for a relaxing riverside break and really makes the most of its waterside location. Watersports, fishing, sailing, paddle boarding and leisurely river rides are on your doorstep. Or why not hire a boat and explore the valley at your own pace?

On land, the shoreline meadow makes for a perfect picnic spot. Downstream by the jetty is The Ferry Boat Inn – drink and dine while enjoying picture-perfect views across the river valley beyond. It’s also where you can hire a canoe or kayak and paddle the river’s shallower waters.

Dittisham is also superbly connected by river to the Dart Valley’s must-see villages, towns, and attractions. Year-round frequent ferries take you to the historic port of Dartmouth, picturesque Kingswear and the eclectic charms of Totnes. And, just across the river on the opposite bank, a quick boat trip takes you to Agatha Christie’s resplendent Greenway holiday home and gardens, now cared for by the National Trust, and an idyllic day out.

Had a lovely time at damson cottage; would definitely stay there again and recommend it. Only thing I found missing was a hair dryer which I had forgotten to bring. Lovely location and very quiet. Vivian Sept 24

Great location with parking right outside - very handy in Dittisham. Easy access to the water (at high tide) a 5 minute walk down the hill. Easy access to the pontoon for boats to Dartmouth and the Ferry Boat Inn (FBI) / Anchorstone Cafe. Great pizzas at the FBI. Paul August 2024

Super accommodation, ideal for our short break. It has a great garden for the kids, it’s well equipped and the host ensured that we had everything we needed. If the old double mattress had been comfortable it would be 5 stars all the way, if replaced, we will be booking the place again next year. Ivan August 2024

Lovely cottage in beautiful village. Highly recommend the paddle boarding / kayaking on the river. Richard August 2024

Lovely little cottage with everything you need for a short stay. Spotlessly clean, and plenty of communication from hosts. Lovely quiet village accessed via a single track road with passing places. Lots to see and loved the ferries so don't need to drive to get about. The church bells currently ring on the hour and half hour throughout the night until about 5am so if you are a light sleeper as I am, I suggest bringing ear plugs. The bell practice also took place at 9am on Sunday morning so no lie in.Elaine July 2024

Lovely location and great cottage. Our kids loved playing in the orchard. Jessica May 2024

Really loved our stay here. Nice and peaceful. Friendly owners. Easy to get into and great location for exploring the area. Carmen May 2024

We loved Dittisham. It is a great location for a relaxing holiday with easy access to Dartmouth and the surroundings for walking and exploring. We had a canoe and were able to launch easily from the Ham carpark. Using the tides, we were able to paddle to Dartmouth (took about an hour), as well as up the river towards Totnes. The local pub on the quayside is very quaint with a friendly landlord...and an excellent pint of Guiness! The cottage was small but fine for our family of 4. The kitchen was well equipped for a holiday home. The bathrooms were clean with good showers. I think that my only gripe would be that the bed was not like mine at home ;) Would come back to this cottage again, if the opportunity arose. Christine April 2024

"Dittisham is a lovely village with lots going on.we’ve been coming her for nearly 30 years and Damson cottage didn’t disappoint.
Perfect for the four of us and the dog.Well appointed and clean. It did help that the weather was amazing this week!: Melanie Aug 2023

"Damson Cottage was a good base for a family of 3 with a 3 year old. Shop pub, playground, ferry to Dartmouth and Greenways, and the Ham by the River an easy stroll away. 15 minute drive to town, bit further to beaches etc. It has a good layout so you have windows to patio, TV, and kitchen hatch so can enjoy home comforts and feel you are away in Devon at the same time. Enjoy!" - Rosalind - August 2023

"Great cottage in a fantastic location with parking. Just what we wanted.. Everything spotless." Julia - July 2023

"Lovely cottage high standard throughout. We love coming to Dittisham and always been very happy with cottages we have stayed in.
Dart Valley Cottages give first class service that1s why we keep coming back." - Julia - May 2022

"We had a lovely stay in this well equipped cottage in a very quiet location. Lovely patio doors out to a nice garden area. It was only a few mins walk down to the pontoon where there is a regular water taxi into Dartmouth from Dittisham. Excellent location for visiting the attractions in the local area. The drive into Dartmouth didn't take long either for a variety of coffee shops and lunch options. We would request a blind or curtain for the kitchen window but apart from that the cottage had everything we needed." - Rachel - October 2021

"Damson Cottage is warm and welcoming with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The views out over the orchard and the little sunny patio are perfect for an afternoon cuppa. The cottage was well equipped and spotlessly clean and the information booklet very helpful. It is perfectly placed for exploring the area and has easy access to the River Dart with Dartmouth just a short drive away. We found both of the pubs in the village very hospitable with good food and both dog friendly, sadly the Anchor Stone Cafe closed on our second day due to the owner breaking her leg so didn’t get to try it. We will definitely be returning in the future." - Fleming - October 2021

"Wish we could have had more than a week. Excellent spot, lovely village with a couple of pubs within walking distance." - Mark - September 2021

"Comfortable, clean and well located cottage. Quiet location. Lovely outdoor space. Pub 3 mins walk away. 5 min walk to stunning estuary / views. Lots of walks from the cottage. Regular water taxi into Dartmouth from Dittisham (10.30 and ever hour aftetwards). Easy walk to pontoon at low tide, slightly longer and hillier at high tide. Red Lion pub - (3 mins), quirky and friendly. Tired but lovely in its own way." - Lynette - September 2021
"Very Comfortable and well equipped cottage in a quiet and beautiful location, just as advertised- a sweeping brush and dust pan and brush would be a good addition !" - A Hall - August 2021

"The cottage was very clean and well appointed and was bigger then expected from the outside. It had a lovely little patio area with access to an orchard, with apples and plums available for picking. This was really great for letting the dog have a run around, although on a lead. The kitchen was well furnished with sharp knives (hurrah!) and the washing machine/dryer was a godsend after a day at the beach. There is little to fault - the car parking spaces could have been bigger and the en-suite could have had a toilet - but these are simply not available and in day to day living the cottage was lovely. It was great that it was dog friendly and we had a lovely time in the picture postcard village that is Dittisham" - Mark - August 2021

"Damson Cottage is very well equipped and Covid secure. The cottage surroundings are very peaceful with immediate access to an orchard. There is one village shop, which is also the pub and the post office, and everyone was very friendly. There are some very healthy walks from Dittisham and the Quay is within 10 minutes walk. A lovely spot with immediate access to the River Dart including a ferry across to the former home of Agatha Christie. The approach to Dittisham village is a not to be forgotten Devonshire driving experience with a windy road often requiring passing places to avoid the on coming traffic!!" - Dan - July 2021

"Damson Cottage is an ideal base for a break in Dittisham - fantastic quiet location within easy walking distance of pubs, cafe, shop and river. The cottage was spotlessly clean, well-equipped, modern and comfortable, with a lovely private patio and access to large communal gardens. Highly recommended for a Dittisham stay." - Hannah - June 2021

"We had a lovely stay in Damson cottage. The cottage was clean and cosy. Lovely views, very quiet and lots of wildlife. A particular highlight was the patio which got morning and evening sun. The location was great, a short walk down to the harbour and pubs/cafes. We came by bike but the shop at the Red Lion had enough to make breakfast, lunch and simple dinner." Arminel - June 2021

"The cottage was perfect for our needs. Everything seemed well looked after. The only minor issue was no blind in the kitchen. The kitchen was well equipped and the bathroom set up good. The cottage is simply decorated and furnished which suited us very well. The Dart valley Cottage team were very helpful through the booking process" - Debbie - June 2021.

“We loved Damson Cottage - it's clean, comfortable, well equipped and with a fabulous location and views. It was great to look out the window every morning and see the church and to hear the bells on Sunday. The communal grounds were a real bonus too for us and our dog and they are well maintained. We had a great time in Dittisham, Dartmouth and surrounding areas. Christine was also very responsive when we had to call her a couple of times - she phoned back straightaway. Would strongly recommend the cottage - we'd certainly go back.” - Keith April 2021

"We have just returned from a week at Damson Cottage. It was the perfect size for 2 adults and 2 young children (& a dog). The weather was glorious, so we were able to open the patio doors and look out over the pretty garden. The children were also able to play in the large communal garden. The kitchen was lacking in a few things which we have mentioned to the owner." - Jay - April 2021

"Excellent location in lovely village of Dittisham. Perfect cottage for two of us, very well appointed, although the renovation of the kitchen had not been completed. Unfortunately the parking space was very tight. Unfortunately no notification to bring towels had reached us, however it was kind of agency to bring us three towels" Avril - September 2020

"
We had a perfect week in the cottage. We had friends in other cottages in the same complex- an ideal location. The cottage was very well equipped and very comfortable. The sofas seemed very new and walls recently decorated. The art work reflected the beautiful area. The only comment I can make is suggesting that the old unused picture hooks are removed. Dart cottages were very responsive and helpful." Katherine - August 2020
