Things To Do
Lily Cottage is a charming character home tucked away in a quiet corner but close to the town centre. This much-loved cottage is finished to an extremely high standard – from muted tones to the breezily nautical - and has a good-sized garden with rattan furniture. Lily Cottage is an easy, level walk into town and the riverside. Ideally set up for a romantic stay for a couple or for small family holidays – pets are welcome, too. A parking permit is provided for the nearby car park.
Accommodation:
The property is accessed via a small step approaching the front door. There is a hallway with room for coats and boots with access to the shower room with an electric shower, electrically heated towel rail, toilet and wash basin.
Through to the cosy living room with sofa and armchairs, Freesat TV, soundbar, a DVD player and Sonos Bluetooth speaker. Limed oak-effect floor, wooden plantation shutters, electric wood burner-effect fire and underfloor heating.
At the rear of the property is the galley kitchen, complete with an electric double oven, small fridge with freezer, built-in fan heater, painted dresser, butler sink and small dishwasher.
Four deep steps lead up from the kitchen into a bright and airy dining room with a vaulted ceiling. Again, with lime oak effect flooring with underfloor heating, dining table, seating for six, sideboard and a wood burner with cosy seating beside.
From the kitchen, there is a narrow staircase which takes you to the first floor, where you will find the two bedrooms. The master bedroom has a double bed, built-in wardrobe, plantation shutters, limed effect floors and a freestanding electric radiator.
The second bedroom has a day bed that can be extended to make a double or twin. Again, with a built-in wardrobe and limed-effect floors.
Please be aware of the traditional nature of this old fisherman’s cottage. A steep staircase may cause access issues for certain guests, and - being an old cottage - the ceiling heights and door frames are low.
There's underfloor and electric heating and a wood burner for comfort.
Outside:
Across the footpath from the front door, there is a fair-sized enclosed garden. A private space which is a lovely suntrap on a summer’s afternoon. The rattan furniture is on a decked area, and past the deck is a further slate shingle area with mature shrubs.
It is possible to briefly park close to the cottage to unload.
Parking:
The car park pass provided is valid for the Mayors Avenue Car Park, a 2-minute walk away. The permit does not guarantee a parking space, and it can get very busy during the summer and special events, such as the Royal Regatta week (during which the car park is closed). The permit is also valid for the Park & Ride facility at the top of town.

Dartmouth is a town steeped in maritime history, from the castle at the mouth of the river that has stood for over 600 years to the cobbled quayside at Bayards Cove where the Mayflower was made ship-shape before its voyage from Plymouth to America in the 1600s, up to the imposing Britannia Royal Naval College overlooking the town, defending the nation's seas since the early 1900s.
Dartmouth's renowned variety of shops and restaurants are on your doorstep, including breakfast and brunch hotspot Café Alf Resco - a hit with locals and visitors alike. At Bayards Cove, see where final repairs were made to the Mayflower before she set sail from Plymouth and onto America. On the riverside, you're spoilt for choice for seafood dining and drinks while you watch the boats drift along the river. There are also fast, frequent ferries, leisurely boat rides, and not forgetting the steam train from Kingswear and its romantic route along the valley shoreline and onto Totnes and Torbay.

A lovely quirky little cottage! Loved the stove, so cosy when lit. Great to have milk left in fridge Glenda Oct 2024
We had a wonderful few days staying in Lily Cottage, which was in great location for exploring the delights in and around Dartmouth.
The interior of Lily Cottage was tastefully decorated with a nautical theme with some fascinating objet d'art.
The beds were extremely comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped with a beautiful dining area for romantic meals in.
As with all old cottages in Dartmouth, the stairs up to the bedrooms were very steep and may be difficult for guests with mobility issues. Jill October 2024
House with character in a great location. Lack of parking space manageable and more than made up for by rest. Paul Aug 2024
"My husband and I booked a week away in Devon with our 9-month old Cavapoo. Having never taken the dog away before we were both a little anxious but we needn't have worried. Lily Cottage is perfectly located, with just short walk down to Dartmouth centre where there are so many restaurants and cafes to choose from (all of which allow dogs). It was a beautiful, cosy space to stay and I would highly recommend to others. The addition of the parking permit was hugely appreciated and meant we didn’t have to worry about where to park the car after returning from days out." - Jess - July 2023
"Surprisingly spacious period dwelling imaginatively restored providing quality stay. Period photographs and interesting artefacts add atmosphere. Underfloor heating effective. Lovely bedlinen and thick towels. Pleasant secure garden just across access path in front of property." - Jo - April 2023
"A lovely cottage conveniently located near Dartmouth town centre." - Keith - June 2022
"Lovely stay at Lilly Cottage. Location was great and quiet, Cottage was well equipped and it was a short walk into town" - Leah - July 2021
"Location excellent, and parking permit welcomed. Garden and furniture we're used most days. " - Kva1 - June 2021
"Lily Cottage is really charming with quirky nautical decoration. The welcome pack was much appreciated and the garden area was great. The big dining space was excellent, as were the sash windows and shutters to see the views from the windows. The woodburner looked appealing, although we never used it as we visited in May. Would benefit from installation of a power shower and bigger fridge/freezer space suitable for storing more food/drink. There was a bbq on the description of the property facilities, but we didn't see it, so bought disposable ones. Loved our stay in Dartmouth, it's a great location, and Lily Cottage, although maybe not everyone's cup of tea, is right up the street of those who want to stop in a place of charm and character." - Morris - June 2021
"This cottage was in a perfect and quiet position for a lovely holiday in Dartmouth. We enjoyed staying in Lilly Cottage and will come back again" - Shelagh - May 2021
"A lovely cottage in a good location, cosy, with lots of space. A nice touch would be to supply wood for the log burner, and maybe some dishwasher tablets. Otherwise a great place to stay and relax and use as a base to travel around the beautiful area of Devon." - Natalie - May 2021
“Lily Cottage is a beautiful bijou place to stay, very modern and artistically presented. It is within easy reach of the town and all amenities.” Greta April 2021
"Lovely quirky cottage, comfy bed, good shower, nice little garden for sitting out and for the dog. Just a few minutes walk into town." - Felicity - April 2021
"We felt very comfortable and at home in Lily Cottage. It’s very well and stylishly equipped, comfy and well situated to walk into town. " Kate - August 2020
"Really lovely cosy cottage - perfect for exploring the area. Fab condition with everything you need for a great break away. All the staff at Dart Valley were very friendly." Camilla - August 2020
"We had a lovely stay at Lily Cottage, it's super close to all the pubs & restaurants - we recommend the Seahorse and bar 1620. Bed was super comfortable and we had plenty of space to work, the garden was especially lovely to work in." Katie - July 2020
"Lily Cottage is a cosy cottage perfect for a winter break. The underfloor heating downstairs was a delight and even if you weren't warm enough there was the wood burner. The only downside was no parking but that goes with most properties in Dartmouth but the plus was the owners provide a parking permit which is a real bonus. I cooked a lovely Christmas lunch at Lily Cottage but the lighting in the kitchen is extremely poor so it would be a great idea to upgrade the overhead lighting. A lovely stay" Gail - December 2020

“We’ve just had a wonderful few days in beautiful (& sunny) Devon. Lily Cottage was a great place to stay in Dartmouth. It’s so stylishly decorated & a fantastic location, just a few minutes walk from the centre!!! The car park permit was really helpful, we used it both in Dartmouth & a visit to Salcombe (stunning place). Christine got in touch as soon as I booked with really helpful instructions & advice about our trip. Thank you very much!” Fiona – July 2019
“Thank you for a fabulous stay at Lily Cottage, it was a quirky but lovely cottage and we loved our mini break, location was perfect and the cottage was so peaceful. It was also so nice to get there and have milk in the fridge and biscuits on the side after being stuck in a lot of traffic on the way down. I’m sure we’ll be back in the near future! Thank you” Emily – June 2019
“Lovely cottage so close to town. Easy to find, traditional cottage, but decorated in a modern style and only a 4-5 minute flat walk into the town centre. Great little garden to relax in, very well equipped kitchen and great modern shower room. The car park was in the town but we never had a problem getting a space and we used the free permit in other towns which was really useful. We would definitely return.” Tracey – 21-28 June 2019
“Really enjoyed our stay at Lily Cottage this week for our wedding anniversary. Dartmouth is a beautiful place. Thanks for letting us use your cottage for this memorable week” Keith and Christine – 1-17 June 2019
“What lovely week we have had – great cottage – so pretty. Lovely garden – kids have been building up their biceps with the weights! Great days out and playstation a great touch to enable a little lie in! Bert has loved it all – one very tired lab! Thanks for letting us use you lovely cottage” Becca, Andy, Stan, Hary and Bert xx – Half term May 2019
“What a beautiful little cottage and so convenient for walking into town to the restaurants and shops. The parking permit entitles you to free parking at most town centre car parks a short walk from the cottage. The amenities in the cottage are perfect for a short break. It’s cosy and stylish with a garden that traps the morning sun for breakfast alfresco. Dog owners be aware the garden isn’t fully secure (there are two gaps in the fence a small or determined dog could get through) and it isn’t directly connected to the cottage. However it is in an incredibly quiet little cul de sac, away from traffic or passers by which meant this wasn’t too much of a problem for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to be back again sometime.”Katherine – April 2019
“Beautiful cottage in easy reach of town centre. Everything you could possibly need for your stay. Parking permit for nearby car park was so useful.” Raydene – April 2019

“Our stay coincided with Dartmouth Food Festival so there was no parking available even though Christine provided a permit. The accommodation was quaint and stylish and beautifully presented and Christine was very responsive. Great location.” John – October 2018

It was great to have the parking pass and even better that we could use it in other locations. It was also great that a high chair and travel cot where provided for our son as it saved us alot of hassle. We would definitely book Lily Cottage again and would recommend it to others.
