Things To Do

Ollie’s Cottage is a vibrant family home and a breath of fresh air for families or couples seeking a memorable self-catering holiday in this special part of South Devon. Cleverly arranged over three floors, Ollie’s Cottage captures river views from the kitchen and living room and benefits from a private patio and parking at the rear. Ollie’s Cottage is within walking distance of the river with its picnic-perfect meadow and all the village amenities. Dogs are also welcome at Ollie's Cottage.

Accommodation:

From the hallway, step into the bright, open-plan kitchen/dining room - equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, electric oven and hob, fridge, freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. The dining area has a pine table and chairs and an antique side table with a CD player and radio. French windows from the dining area lead into an enclosed paved patio. Downstairs, there is also a cloakroom with WC.

The first floor has a comfortable sitting room with a corner sofa, views of the river, an open fire, and a TV with a DVD player. At the far end of the room, separated by room dividers, there are two single divan beds. There's also a spacious bathroom containing a bath with an overhead shower.

Upstairs again to the second floor, there are two bedrooms set into the eves of the cottage. The first is a large, attractive double bedroom. The second is a small bedroom, ideal for children, and contains a single bed and roof window.

A travel cot is available.

There are storage heaters and electric heating, plus an open fire (coal and logs can be purchased locally).

Outside:

The patio garden at the rear of the property is the perfect space for al fresco dining on summer evenings - it's fully enclosed, with garden furniture and flowerbeds.

Parking:

There is parking to the rear in the shared private car park and additional unrestricted on-street parking on Riverside Road.

Nearby:

The village pub, The Red Lion Inn, is a two-minute walk around the corner (don't worry, it is not known to be noisy). The Red Lion also hosts the village shop and Post Office. A 10-minute walk will take you to The Quay, where you will find the Ferry Boat Inn and The Anchorstone Café, as well as ferries to the National Trust's Greenway house and gardens, and also Dartmouth.

Availability:

During peak season (May, June, July, and August), we need to keep to Saturday changeovers and a minimum stay of 7 nights. However, please do contact us with any requests you may have and we will accommodate if at all possible.

Outside the peak season, we can be more flexible and don't need to keep to a Saturday changeover.

Please get in touch if you need any advice or tips on places to visit, walks (we're right on the South West Coast Path), pubs and restaurants, etc.

Dittisham truly is a Devon gem. Nestled a few miles upstream from Dartmouth, this unspoiled and tranquil village is perfect for a relaxing riverside break and really makes the most of its waterside location. Watersports, fishing, sailing, paddle boarding and leisurely river rides are on your doorstep. Or why not hire a boat and explore the valley at your own pace?

On land, the shoreline meadow makes for a perfect picnic spot. Downstream by the jetty is The Ferry Boat Inn – drink and dine while enjoying picture-perfect views across the river valley beyond. It’s also where you can hire a canoe or kayak and paddle the river’s shallower waters.

Dittisham is also superbly connected by river to the Dart Valley’s must-see villages, towns, and attractions. Year-round frequent ferries take you to the historic port of Dartmouth, picturesque Kingswear and the eclectic charms of Totnes. And, just across the river on the opposite bank, a quick boat trip takes you to Agatha Christie’s resplendent Greenway holiday home and gardens, now cared for by the National Trust, and an idyllic day out.

a lovely spacious cottage well equipped and lovely location. Kim December 2024

We really enjoyed our stay at Ollie's Cottage. A true "home from home". Very clean and comfortable and difficult to say how it could be improved. In respect of the area, this was the first time I have visited the Dart Estuary. What a wonderful part of the country, plenty to do and see and everyone is extremely friendly. Cannot praise the area or cottage enough.Rob and Nicki Oct 2024

We have now stayed in Ollie’s cottage about 5 times. We like its position in the village and it has all the room we need. It is well furnished and the kitchen has everything you need. We love the herbs and spices in the cupboard for use by guests. So many houses have nothing. We will be sad if it is sold as otherwise we would certainly book to go again Harriet September 2024

Lovely place as always. Smart tv rather hard to understand!! Going back in September for another 2 weeks Harriet July 2024

We could not have had a more relaxing, comfortable stay in Ollie’s Cottage. The cottage is very well equipped, clean and comfortable and if anything even better than the description. The weather was beautiful but even if there had been a wet day we would have enjoyed all the books and games. There was a very comprehensive file of information too which we appreciated including a guide to the beaches. Dittisham is so beautiful you could easily not use the car and have plenty to do and great places to eat. We hope to be back soon! Nel June 2024

"This is our 4th stay at Ollie’s Cottage, the first one was in 1999! The cottage is wonderful, spacious, practical, great location and comfortable." - Stroud - July 2023

"Met all our needs for a long weekend in Dittisham. Quiet and comfortable. Great views of Dart estuary from ground and 1st floor. We did not use but exceptionally well equipped with washing machine, dishwasher etc if staying for longer. We are regular visitors to the area and would certainly book this cottage again." - Adam - May 2023

"Lovely cottage in a very pretty village. We enjoyed boat trips on the Dart and taking the the dog to Slapton Sands." - Charlotte - April 2023

"Love staying here as it is like home from home comfort and everything is set up for all eventualities! As Mary Poppins would say 'practically perfect in every way!'" - Pauline - March 2023

"A lovely cottage in the heart of Dittisham, close to two pubs, playground and the river, it was perfect for our stay with only a short walk from the cottage to family who live in the village. The cottage itself was a great size, has loads of useful extras - particularly in the kitchen. The children loved their beds being in the same room as the TV!! Nice clean linen and towels and lots of useful and easy to understand instructions for everything. Thank you, I'm sure we'll be back!" - Tracy - December 2022

"We were very happy with Ollie’s cottage. It was our second stay in 2 years in Dittisham, and we found Ollie’s location very convenient for all our activities. The cottage is very well-equipped and comfortable, with handy parking. We were very lucky with the weather, and especially enjoyed the ‘Round Robin’ boat, bus and train trip round the Dart Valley, a fascinating (very early morning!) tour of Brixham Fish Market, and visits to Greenway, beautiful Coleton Fishacre and amazing Fast Rabbits Farm. We would definitely like to see all the gardens again in the Spring, and would happily return to Ollie’s Cottage. Highly recommended!" - Jill - October 2022

"Great location for exploring South Devon. The Red Lion round the corner is the most unusual public house I've ever visited - It's a Dog friendly Pub, Restuarant, Post Office and well-stocked shop. The hub of the village with extremely, friendly staff and locals." - Roger - September 2022

"We stayed at Ollies cottage again this year. As always it was lovely. Very comfortable and well equipped. Proximity of the Red Lion is a great asset" - Harriet - September 2022

"Ollie's Cottage is a home from home for us. It's our 3rd time there, and won't be our last. I wish I'd booked another week tbh" - Gareth - July 2022

"Lovely place. Excellent blend of charm and practicality. Very pleased that we found it and fully intend to return." - Simon - July 2022

Great to be back again to dear Ollie's cottage. The cottage was just like a home from home and all in great order and squeaky clean and welcoming. We had a truly wonderful weekend. Delighted to see a key code holder. See you again!

"Pip the dog here, well we had a splendiforous time at Ollies,a real home from home.I had some fabulous walks down to the quay and back along the foreshore, also across the fields.Made some friends with the Dalmatians at The Red Lion.
Dittisham is really well placed for lots of doggy adventures,I liked ring the bell to go to Greenway, got another boat to Dartmouth Castle and did you know you can take cars on a boat to,we did that and went to a most glorious house and garden at Coleton Fishacre.
Also went on a sea tractor to Burgh Island and being a wonder dog I managed to part the water so we could walk back.
Another place I would recommend is Fast Rabbits Farm,we went there and I thought there would be lots of little bunnies to amuse me,but no,instead there was the most glorious garden.
Well I will sum up now as my food bowl awaits me,a great big thank you from me ,the boy and the old lady,we had a lovely holiday and would throughly recommend Dart Valley Cottages and Ollies.🐾🐾🐾". - Judy and Pip the Dog - June 2022

'Clean and tidy, located very conveniently for all amenities. We enjoyed our stay.' Shaun - March 2022

"We had a lovely time at ‘Ollies Cottage’, made special when we found out that the rent was used for the ongoing medical care of Ollie.
The cottage was equipped with all you need, albeit we ate out during the duration of our holiday. It was in an ideal position to explore villages around the Dart and the South Hams area.
Whilst we did not take our dogs, can we suggest that you make a stair gate available for the bottom of the stairs to ensure anyone bringing dogs conforms with house rules.
The Ferry Boat Inn is a great place to have a drink and chat looking out over the Dart. We enjoyed delicious seafood overlooking the river in the Maltsters Arms, Tuckenhay. Snug beside the log fire at the family and dog friendly Hemborough pub The Sportsmans Arms, we ate locally sourced home cooked tasty pub food.
Ollie, thankyou for the use of your lovely cottage. " - Jane and Tony - October 2021

"Finally we managed to have our weekend in Dittersham (we originally booked a w/end in March 2020 which coincided with lockdown no.1). To be honest we were a bit nervous that everything would have changed because of the pandemic; we needn't have worried it is still the same marvellous cottage in the same marvellous village. We are now looking forward to March 2022." - Pst.home - October 2021

"We had a lovely relaxing time at Ollie's Cottage. The cottage contained all kitchen equipment we needed, bedrooms were comfortable and airy. Bathroom was modernized and we had plenty of hot water. Lounge was comfy and had an up-to-date TV. Dittisham was a lovely quiet little village on the Dart river with a little marina where you could catch ferries up and down the river. We did have a barking dog from the nearby Pub every morning and evening ! Not to much of a problem as eventually owners took him inside." - Meryl - October 2021

"This is the fourth year we have stayed at Ollies cottage. We love it. Very well situated beside the pub. Beautifully equipped and just right for our needs. New smart tv with Netflix useful for damp evenings!" - Harriet - September 2021

"We enjoyed a lovely stay here. The cottage is well appointed and beautifully situated on a quiet road. There is a gorgeous view out front across the fields to the Dart, and the front bench gets the setting sun so it’s a lovely spot for a gin and tonic! The pub and village shop are neighbours but there is very little noise other than the occasional dog barking in the morning. Would definitely return." - Lynsey - September 2021

"A lovely light and airy cottage. Spacious and well equipped kitchen/dining room, lovely main bedroom and cute little child's bunk room. I wasn't clear from the photos that th twin beds were actually in the large sitting room but it worked out fine for the teenager." - Tess - June 2021

"Great location with ability to walk locally and be in green lanes with amazing views. Within half an hour of Salcombe and fantastic walk to Gara rock" - G Butler - May 2021

"It is a fantastic location with beautiful views, pet friendly and easy to stay even with family of 6 without feeling clustered" -Green - April 2021

"Ollies cottage is in an excellent position behind the Red Lion pub and shop. The house is specious and we’ll orientated. Bathroom good although shower pump a bit noisy. Kitchen well equipped and spacious. We have stayed here before and probably will again" Harriet - August 2020

"
The cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped and in a good position. We found plenty of wonderful things to do in the area and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday there." Romy - July 2020

“Holidaying in the UK when the weather is nice is the best. We were lucky enough to have a stunning week in Dittisham at Ollies cottage. Dittisham is a beautiful village near Dartmouth. The cottage is a 5 minute walk from the water and 10 mins to the excellent Anchorstone Cafe. The space at Ollies Cottage is clean and has everything you need. It’s fairly basic and possibly a bit tired in places, but you can’t fault the location. We enjoyed ourselves.” Mark – 20-24 August 2019

“A lovely cottage in great place. Cottage beautifully equipped. Kitchen equipment excellent. We had everything we needed. Good selection of DVDs and books. Position behind the Red Lion is wonderful so you can pop in for anything you need . The restaurant there is excellent.”Harriet – 10-17 August 2019

“Fantastic Cottage. This is the third time we have stayed at Ollie’s Cottage, the first being in 1999 when I was pregnant with my first son. We now have 4 children and 2 dogs and we all fit so comfortably in the cottage. It is in a perfect position being next to The Red Lion pub for provisions, Post Office and of course beer! The parking is never a problem as it can be with other properties in Dittisham. A short walk takes you to the river and all the activities to enjoy there, including the children favourite, crabbing and our favourite The FBI pub! The cottage is very well equipped, we love the washing machine and drier, perfect for the English summers! Nice to have tiled floor downstairs with dogs, much easier to keep clean. The beds are comfy and the shower is great. Lovely outside area too. As you can see we love it there!” Mark – 3-10 August 2019
