Things To Do

Orchard Cottage is a delightful, south-facing holiday cottage in Dittisham Court. It’s perfect for a romantic stay or a small family holiday in this lovely riverside village. Enjoy the sunny, private patio with village views, and access to an orchard of Dittisham plum, flowering cherry, apple, and willow trees. The river and village amenities are all in walking distance. There’s access to four acres of communal grounds and one allocated parking space right outside. Dogs are welcome, too.

Accommodation:

The entrance hall takes you to the open-plan living area with a sofa and armchairs, log-effect fire, TV, DVD, and CD player. French doors fill the room with light and lead out onto the private patio. The dining area seats four guests.

The shaker-style kitchen is very well equipped with an electric oven and hob, integrated dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washing machine and microwave. A serving hatch connects the two rooms. Also, on the ground floor off the entrance hall is a small cloakroom with a WC.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms - the light and airy master bedroom looks out over the orchard towards the village and a twin room at the front. It features a kingsize bed, a built-in wardrobe, and an en-suite shower room. The twin bedroom also has a built-in wardrobe. There is also a recently refurbished family bathroom featuring a bath with an electric overhead shower.

A travel cot and highchair are available on request.

There's central heating throughout.

Larger Groups

Orchard Cottage is part of a group of properties that can accommodate large groups. So, if you are planning a trip as a family and are looking to accommodate a larger family we may well be able to help you. All properties are within a short walk of each other (some neighbouring). Please do contact us to discuss dates and availability

Outside:

The cottage benefits from a small enclosed patio immediately off the living room, complete with garden furniture. Perfect for sitting in the sun and enjoying the peace and quiet Dittisham provides. Steps down from the patio is access to the orchard and the wider communal grounds including large grassy areas with vantage points over Bow Creek and over towards The Quay. Guests are welcome to exercise dogs on the grounds however we ask they are kept on leads.

Parking:

There is a private parking space immediately outside the cottage. Please note you need to drive under an arch with a height restriction of 7'6".

Nearby:

The village pub, The Red Lion Inn, is a 2-minute walk around the corner. The Red Lion also hosts the village shop and Post Office. A 10-minute walk will take you to The Quay where you will find the Ferry Boat Inn and The Anchorstone Café as well as ferries to the National Trust's Greenway house and gardens, and Dartmouth. Blackpool Sands is the closest beach - a 10-minute drive away.

Dittisham truly is a Devon gem. Nestled a few miles upstream from Dartmouth, this unspoiled and tranquil village is perfect for a relaxing riverside break and really makes the most of its waterside location. Watersports, fishing, sailing, paddle boarding and leisurely river rides are on your doorstep. Or why not hire a boat and explore the valley at your own pace?

On land, the shoreline meadow makes for a perfect picnic spot. Downstream by the jetty is The Ferry Boat Inn – drink and dine while enjoying picture-perfect views across the river valley beyond. It’s also where you can hire a canoe or kayak and paddle the river’s shallower waters.

Dittisham is also superbly connected by river to the Dart Valley’s must-see villages, towns, and attractions. Year-round frequent ferries take you to the historic port of Dartmouth, picturesque Kingswear and the eclectic charms of Totnes. And, just across the river on the opposite bank, a quick boat trip takes you to Agatha Christie’s resplendent Greenway holiday home and gardens, now cared for by the National Trust, and an idyllic day out.

It was our first time visiting Devon and we fell in love with Dittisham. Perfect for the dog and our baby. The village is amazingly quiet and peaceful. The cottage was exactly what we needed, a lovely space. Dart valley cottages went above and beyond for our needs and we felt very welcomed. The relaxing break we needed. The cottage is dated in places but was nice and clean throughout. We will definitely be considering staying here again in the future. Colleen Sept 2023

"We had a lovely short break in Dittisham. The cottage was thoughtfully prepared and equipped with everything you might need. We had a comfortable stay and didn’t want for anything. It would be helpful to let guests know that the smoke alarms are sensitive to steam from the bathroom, so the bathroom door should be kept shut to avoid them being set off." - Becky - August 2023

"Lovely setting. House very comfortable with lovely sunny patio. Recommend the short walk to the quay and taking the boat across to Greenway House. Dartmouth a short drive, but Park & Ride provides an excellent service and is great value for money." - Julie - June 2023

"We had a great stay at Orchard Cottage. We loved the fact that you could walk from the patio into the orchard to walk the dog and to other places on foot from the property. " - Sara - September 2022

"We have stayed in Orchard Cottage before and once again thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. I have been coming to Ditsum on and off for 40 years - it is a wonderful place. Orchard Cottage has everything guests need for a pleasant stay and is in a super location. We will be back!" Justyne - April 2022

"We really enjoyed our stay in Orchard Cottage, a pretty, well-equipped and comfortable cottage in Dittisham Court. The weather was superb, so we made good use of the terrace and very attractive and peaceful grounds." - Liz - July 2021

"Our 2nd visit to this lovely dog friendly cottage, with an upgrade since our last visit a couple of years ago. Very comfortable, nicely presented and benefitting from everything needed to make for an enjoyable holiday The cottage was very well presented and everything was in good working order. Comfy seating in the sitting room and good king size bed in master bedroom were much appreciated. Perfect small patio with table and chairs and nice view over the lovely orchard. Easy car parking in allocated space by the front door. 2 pubs within 10 mins walking distance with the nearer one also serving as the post office and well stocked village shop Dittisham is a picture postcard village on the River Dart" - Jane - July 2021

"Well equipped and comfortable with a pretty patio area to enjoy when the sun shone. It was very helpful being able to park the car close by. " Walton - June 2021

"The house was lovely, very clean, all the facilities we wanted. View was peaceful and the outside seating ideal in the hot sun. Perfect place for breakfast and afternoon tea. Could see thousands of stars sparkling in the sky at night and hear birds singing in the day. Must return to Dittisham. Local pubs were welcoming and quirky and Anchorstone cafe was superb." Janet - September 2020

"
Property looked a little tired but was warm and comfortable. Due to location; would have benefited from having somewhere to hang wetsuits- we didn't want to bring into the property. The twin room could have done with some drawer spacer, however, plenty of coat hangers to hang clothes instead" Beverly - August 2020

"Dittisham as ever remains a very special place, having visited it about 12 times, normally in this cottage. Great position, easy and comfortable to get on with and has everything you need for an enjoyable break" Mark - September 2019
