Things To Do
Port Side offers captivating river views, stylish boutique interiors, and a friendly village lifestyle. It sits in an elevated position in the pretty village of Kingswear, opposite Dartmouth where the river meets the English Channel. Bright and airy inside, Port Side comfortably sleeps families of five over three spacious bedrooms. This boutique-style home offers total relaxation from its convenient location for exploring the very best of one of Devon’s favourite and most historic places.
Accommodation:
A flight of steps from the driveway take you up to the front door, which opens to the ground-floor hallway with the master bedroom off to the left and the 2 other bedrooms and bathroom off to the right. The en suite master bedroom has a kingsize bed. Patio doors open onto a balcony and offer outstanding views across Waterhead Creek and over the river to Dartmouth. There is a dressing area off the bedroom leading to the en suite shower room.
Down the hall, there's a cosy single bedroom where, again, large windows fill the room with light and offer river views. At the end of the hallway, there's another kingsize bedroom with ample storage, as well as a side door to access the patio garden on this level. The family bathroom is also on this floor and has a shower, toilet and basin.
The stairs from the ground floor come up to a lovely light-filled landing with big patio doors at the rear of the property; off to the right are the kitchen and dining room. To the left are the utility room and the living room. The living room is a lovely light spacious room with two comfortable sofas, an armchair, and a wall-mounted TV above the log-effect electric fire. Large sliding windows open onto a balcony and offer lovely views.
Double doors from the lounge to the dining room give a lovely open-plan feel; the dining room has a large table and chairs that comfortably seat five guests. Windows that stretch the length of the room really make the most of the view, and patio doors on the far wall that opens onto the beautiful deck bring a feeling of alfresco dining, even if it’s a bit chilly. The kitchen is at the rear of the property and is very well equipped with an oven and hob, fridge freezer and dishwasher; again a patio door allows you to access the large deck. There is also a utility room on the first floor with WC, washing machine, and tumble dryer.
Outside:
The main large deck off the first floor has access from the dining room and kitchen. It’s the perfect spot for taking in the view with a morning coffee or ending the day with an al fresco meal. Steps down from the deck take you to the second bedroom.
Parking:
There is parking for two cars on the driveway

Kingswear is approached via Dartmouth - a town steeped in maritime history, from the castle at the mouth of the river that has stood for over 600 years to the cobbled quayside at Bayards Cove where the Mayflower was made ship-shape before its voyage from Plymouth to America in the 1600s, up to the imposing Britannia Royal Naval College overlooking the town, defending the nation's seas since the early 1900s.
Dartmouth's renowned variety of shops and restaurants are on your doorstep, including breakfast and brunch hotspot Café Alf Resco - a hit with locals and visitors alike. At Bayards Cove, see where final repairs were made to the Mayflower before she set sail from Plymouth and onto America. On the riverside, you're spoilt for choice for seafood dining and drinks while you watch the boats drift along the river. There are also fast, frequent ferries, leisurely boat rides, and not forgetting the steam train from Kingswear and its romantic route along the valley shoreline and onto Totnes and Torbay.
Dining Out
Vibrant cafés and delis, cosy inns, and sublime seafood - all within walking distance - including TV chef Mitch Tonks' go-to restaurants, ‘The Seahorse’ and ‘Rockfish’. Local favourites include Kendrick’s and Taylor's in the town centre, as well as hearty pub meals at The Floating Bridge and historic The Dartmouth Arms. The Sportsman’s Arms, as you head out of town, is a favourite for a Sunday carvery. The surrounding villages also have culinary gems, such as the Laughing Monk in Strete, and Radius 7 in Stoke Fleming.
Shopping
Individual and independent; quaint meets quality - browsing Dartmouth’s locally run stores is a treat. From bespoke jewellery to designer fashion, eye-catching artworks and stylish boutiques. Venture into Foss Street and lose yourself in its variety - you’re bound to come away with a memento of your stay.
Towns to explore
The eclectic market town of Totnes is 14 miles from Dartmouth. Reach it by road or river to enjoy its broad mix of shops and restaurants (especially for some tasty, inventive, vegetarian and vegan cuisine). From Totnes, the English Riviera is easily accessible (including the steam train to Paignton). Torbay offers golden beaches, exhilarating sea sports, and quaint fishing port tranquillity. Head inland to Buckfastleigh to get hands-on learning about the animals at Pennywell Farm. Cute and colourful, Buckfast Butterflies and otter sanctuary is a must-see. And there’s another picturesque steam railway.
Further afield, the picturesque resort town of Salcombe is 20 miles away - its golden beaches and clear waters make for perfect lazy days, and are superb for sailing.

And one of the world’s longest and most-popular trails - the South West Coast Path - can be picked up by Dartmouth Castle with a choice of wonderful walks along this great stretch of coastline.
The property is beautiful and maintained to a very high standard. The views from the bedrooms, balconies and terrace are quite simply stunning. You can see the Paignton to Dartmouth steam train crossing the railway bridge from the terrace which kept our 6 year old happy. You can cross over to Dartmouth via car ferry or as a foot passenger. Its a 10 / 15 minute walk (with a child) from the house down to the ferry. The house has all.the essentials and a great range of games in the living room. If I won the lottery I would be very tempted to put in an offer! July 2024
Lovely house, nicely furnished, clean and today with a great out side space. Views are superb. We really loved the house and would definitely try and book again when we’re next in Devon. Robert July 2024
A beautiful property in an even more beautiful location. Portside certainly has that wow factor with fantastic views of Dartmouth and the Dart estuary from literally every window and balcony. It's well situated for some great walks, access to the ferry and the steam railway, along with a couple of great local pubs. All-in-all, the superbly restful experience in a great surroundings.Alexander July 2024
Was second time with my family visiting port side , Very nice house in great location. Has it's own parking which is a good thing in this area. Had a lovely week stay at port side Craig June 2024
Perfect spot for our mini vacation in the south west. So clean and tidy, best location, only a short walk to the ferry. Would love to come back again! James May 2024
The first thing to say is that the website images do not do justice to the Port Side property. There are wonderful views of Kingswear/Dartmouth from the living areas and ample chairs and table space on the decking. The house is comfortable, well equipped and clean.Port Side is an excellent base for a holiday - easy access to the ferries and a joy to be able to watch (and hear) the steam trains go back and forth from the comfort of the house. There is easy access to the South Devon Coastal path if you’re a walker. For info - there are lots of steps to access the house so it’s not wheelchair friendly. But it’s a great house and I’d go back in a heartbeat…Sarah April 2024
Thank you for all the information re Port Side. This is just to say that the house (and the views!) are absolutely beautiful, so well equipped and beautifully maintained. We are sure we will have a lovely week here, and it seems we are to be blessed with a rare week of beautiful weather as well, so everything could not be better. So thanks for everything.

"We loved our stay. Gorgeous setting and location. Bonus with parking which is great for this location. Would stay here again. Customer service teams were helpful and quick to respond to queries. Thanks for a great stay." - May- July 2023
"This is a lovely house with outstanding views. There is comfortable external furniture on the large terrace which has the advantage of a large parasol for shade. This would be vital in very hot weather as there is no natural shade on the terrace. A table with bench seating makes outside dining easy due to its proximity to the kitchen. Lovely comfortable sitting room." - Jane - July 2023
"We enjoyed our stay at Port Side. The house is light and airy, spacious with fabulous views. Lovely balcony off the kitchen, a great place to relax when the sun came out. Lots of steps up to the front door and a good walk to the quayside so wouldn't suit anyone with mobility issues. Well equipped house, Dart Valley resolved a hot water issue very quickly (thank you)." - JPS - July 2023
"Spacious, comfortable, quiet and amazing views. Would stay again if going to Dartmouth." - Dave - May 2023

"My husband, brother in law and 2 sisters in law enjoyed a lovely stay in Kingswear at Portside. We think Kingswear is the best side of the river to stay as it offers wonderful views of the river and Dartmouth, and enjoys the afternoon and evening sunshine. We’ll be back" - Jenny - August 2022.
"Spacious house that was very clean and well-appointed with lovely views from the large terrace as well as the balconies. Really enjoyed our stay very much indeed and would not hesitate to come again. " - Anne - July 2022
"Great place to stay and great location . The views over towards Dartmouth are superb and it is ideally placed to walk down to the ferry to go across to Dartmouth itself or alternatively to drive slightly further afield to some great places like Salcombe.
The property is fully equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay - we particularly liked the upper terrace which had the sun all day. We would love to come back and visit again! " Jonathan - June 2022
"Excellent stay in Portside. Fantastic views from many of the rooms and comfortable beds. Well equipped. If your car is on the long side you probably won’t be able to fit a second one on the drive (but there’s always the Marina carpark very close by). Ferry just a short stroll away. We hope to return to Portside." - Sarah - April 2022
"Very clean and well furnished property. Lovely views over the river dart Parking for two cars a bonus." Julian - March 2022
"Had a lovely fortnight at Port Side. Visited the South Hams several times and never stayed on this side of the River before. It was an easy walk to the passenger ferry for Dartmouth. Wonderful views of Dartmouth. The house was spotlessly clean and very comfortable." - Martine - August 2021
"A stunning property and very well located the views are absolutely beautiful. We were very fortunate to spend some very very hot days there however it would have been more comfortable had there been some shade in the form of an umbrella on the patios. Very enjoyable stay" - Eithne - July 2021.
"Stunning cottage in a great spot in Kingswear. Beautifully decorated and furnished. Very well equipped. Great views of the river and steam train. We will definitely be coming back." - Amanda - July 2021
"Port Side gives you everything you need for a great holiday. It is in a great location and the views are absolutely stunning. You could sit on the upstairs deck all day long and never get bored with the coming and goings on the river Dart. The house itself has everything you need and more, full of thoughtful little touches like blankets for outside when it cools down in the evenings. The standard of cleanliness was excellent, which was reassuring in these difficult times and the standard of furnishings was very good and comfortable too. This was our first time in the Dartmouth area and we really enjoyed our week here, made all the more special because of the fabulous Port Side"
