Things To Do

Primrose Cottage is a charming pet-friendly home within Dittisham Court. Peace and tranquillity reflect all around – from the soft furnishings in the living space to the soothing bedrooms. French doors open to overlook the communal orchards and gardens. Plus, there’s patio seating for summer lunches and suppers. Park the car on-site and take a short walk to the village shop and pub, as well as the quayside where you can catch a boat to Dartmouth, or picnic in the riverside meadow.

Accommodation:

The front door leads into the hallway with space for coats and boots. Straight through to the light and airy sitting room with sofa and armchairs, and a TV with DVD player. French doors fill the room with light and take you out to the sunny patio with garden furniture. At the near end of the room, there is a dining area with a table and chairs for 4. Primrose Cottage benefits from a well-equipped kitchen with modern cream cupboards, an electric oven and hob, microwave, an integrated dishwasher, an integrated fridge-freezer, a washing machine and DAB radio. A serving hatch connects the kitchen to the living room. On the ground floor there is also a small cloakroom and WC.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms. The master bedroom has a kingsize bed and views across the orchard and village, with a built-in wardrobe and an en-suite shower room with power shower. The second bedroom is a twin room with two 3’ beds and a built-in wardrobe. There is also a family bathroom upstairs with a bath, electric overhead shower.

A travel cot and highchair are available upon request.

There's central heating throughout.

The orchard is accessible via a few steps at the end of the patio area.

Dittisham truly is a Devon gem. Nestled a few miles upstream from Dartmouth, this unspoiled and tranquil village is perfect for a relaxing riverside break and really makes the most of its waterside location. Watersports, fishing, sailing, paddle boarding and leisurely river rides are on your doorstep. Or why not hire a boat and explore the valley at your own pace?

On land, the shoreline meadow makes for a perfect picnic spot. Downstream by the jetty is The Ferry Boat Inn – drink and dine while enjoying picture-perfect views across the river valley beyond. It’s also where you can hire a canoe or kayak and paddle the river’s shallower waters.

Dittisham is also superbly connected by river to the Dart Valley’s must-see villages, towns, and attractions. Year-round frequent ferries take you to the historic port of Dartmouth, picturesque Kingswear and the eclectic charms of Totnes. And, just across the river on the opposite bank, a quick boat trip takes you to Agatha Christie’s resplendent Greenway holiday home and gardens, now cared for by the National Trust, and an idyllic day out.

The cottage is quiet with lovely views across the orchard towards the river, and to the church. It has a nice garden and terrace. It was clean and comfortable with pleasant furnishings. However, it needs attention to the damp, possibly rot, in the downstairs toilet, as well as some blown out double glazing units. The parking was really convenient. We would happily stay again if visiting the area.Ian April 2024

"Pretty riverside village with regular ferry service to Dartmouth. Good updated accommodation, light and airy." - Hurley - August 2023

"We had a wonderful fortnight in Primrose cottage in Dittisham. The location is great , with a lovely view of the church and the communal garden which looks like it used to be an orchard. Easy parking and a lovely village , this is our 20th year of visiting!" - Campbells - July 2023

"A cosy , warm, comfortable end of terrace cottage which was very peaceful out of main holiday season It is set on the edge of a beautiful communal orchard garden in a pretty , hilly ,river Dart village which has amenities to suit everyone" - Jennifer - October 2022

"We really enjoyed our stay at Primrose Cottage. We found the cottage in a very clean and tidy condition. Kitchen, lounge and bedrooms were excellent. We visited many places in the local area and they were very nice. We would definitely book again in the future. Thanks."Julie - June 2022

"Very comfortable cottage. Very well equipped with loads of hand wash/sanitizer and plenty of cleaning equipment.
The location was excellent unfortunately the weather wasn't too good to make the most of the beautiful garden and outside. Excellent pub/shop/post office etc.
We would certainly book it again." - Shirley - May 2022

"Cottage was very comfortable for the two of us. Well equipped and ideally situated to explore this area of Devon. The road into the village can be tricky - single track with passing places for three miles! " - D J Watkinson - October 2021

"A lovely cottage in a beautiful situation. Very well equipped, a home from home. Stunning scenery and coastal walks close by. Dartmouth a short drive away, where we dined each evening. Weather was wonderful, in fact everything perfect." G P Joughin - September 2021

"A cute, clean cottage, perfect for as a base for a Devon holiday. We went to the beaches south, Bantham, Mill Bay etc, and though the drive was quite far, was lovely staying somewhere completely different with all the fun things to do by the river." - Gerpal - August 2021

"Lovely cottage which was spotless on arrival. Cake and milk was a very welcome surprise. Our toddler loved the garden and orchard and we used the cottage as a base to explore not only the village, but to go kayaking, visit numerous beaches and the wonderful babbacombe model village." - Gemma - July 2021

"We really enjoyed our stay in Primrose Cottage/Dittisham. The village is very quiet and relaxing. The cottage was just what we needed and we found everything there that we needed. There were cobwebs/spiders around the ceiling in the kitchen but other than that, the cottage was clean. The area to the rear of the property i.e. the orchard was ideal for the dog. It was lovely looking out over this during our stay. Overall, we had a lovely week and we would definitely return Thank you" - Michelle - June 2021

"Primrose cottage was known to be a clean well designed comfortable holiday home by the year’s of reports in the visitor’s book. We had rain every day but managed to visit friends and family for walks . This was the last week of lockdown so the well equipped kitchen at the cottage was so helpful. Super new fridge. Upstairs much comfort , super main bedroom with a very good King mattress and en-suite. Unfortunately we used the second bedroom single mattresses for one night only. Sadly the only poor night. We are sailors so we have been used to sailing past Dittisham. We should have stayed in the beautiful village way before now. Unfortunately there are no more weeks available at Primrose Cottage, so best wishes to all the lucky ones in 2021." Christopher and Lesley. Gloucestershire. - May 2021

"Nice cottage with views over an orchard in a great village on the Dart. Cottage is a bit tired in places with furniture in the living room probably in need of an upgrade and outside furniture rotten." Ash - August 2020

"
Primrose Cottage is lovely, great location short walk down to river or to the local shop, good car parking & nice little garden & patio area Cottage is very comfortable despite COVID Safe cleaning requirements necessitating the removal if all those extras and personal touches Highly recommended" Jane - July 2020

"Cottage is well located and roomy but water pressure for showers could be improved. Good facilities available." Sharon - January 2020
