Things To Do

Seascape is a beautifully presented, modern waterfront apartment on Dartmouth's South Embankment. A perfect romantic escape for couples or for a small family trip in this beautiful riverside town. The angular feature window in the living room is a truly peaceful spot to sit and watch the boats come and go as the river reaches the sea. Located on the second floor, Seascape also has a private balcony with more river views, as well as a private on-site parking space.

Accommodation:

From the private parking space on Cole's Court, enter the private hallway/utility room with a washing machine, tumble dryer, and freezer - as well as space for boots and coats. Continue up to the second floor to reach the front door.

Inside, there are two bedrooms to the right and the main bathroom and additional WC to the left. At the front of the apartment, there's the open-plan living room cleverly built around the angles of the roof, with exposed timbers and a feature triangular window with views of the river, Kingswear, and out to sea.

The kitchen area is well-equipped with an oven, hob, microwave and fridge, along with breakfast bar seating. The dining area set under the angle of the roof has a modern glass-topped table with comfortable seating for four. The lounge area incorporates a large triangular window providing lots of natural light and providing a moving river scene backdrop. The leather sofa and armchair make this a very comfortable space with a TV, DVD player, and coal-effect fire. Patio doors in the far corner provide access to the balcony.

Seascape now has Sky Stream

The master bedroom is tastefully furnished with kingsize-bed, built-in wardrobes and a dressing table. Patio doors provide access to the balcony and offer river views. The second bedroom has a 4'6" bed and is furnished with bedside tables, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers and river glimpses.

The main bathroom has a large walk-in shower and WC. There is an additional, cleverly-incorporated cloakroom and WC, providing extra facilities for two couples sharing.

There's central heating throughout.

Outside:

The balcony can be accessed from the lounge or the master bedroom. There is a tall bistro table with seating for four - perfect for morning coffee, or an evening glass of fizz.

Parking:

The good-sized private parking space comfortably fits a large car.

?Dartmouth is a town steeped in maritime history, from the castle at the mouth of the river that has stood for over 600 years to the cobbled quayside at Bayards Cove where the Mayflower was made ship-shape before its voyage from Plymouth to America in the 1600s, up to the imposing Britannia Royal Naval College overlooking the town, defending the nation's seas since the early 1900s.

Dartmouth's renowned variety of shops and restaurants are on your doorstep, including breakfast and brunch hotspot Café Alf Resco - a hit with locals and visitors alike. At Bayards Cove, see where final repairs were made to the Mayflower before she set sail from Plymouth and onto America. On the riverside, you're spoiled for choice for seafood dining and drinks while you watch the boats drift along the river. There are also fast, frequent ferries, leisurely boat rides, and not forgetting the steam train from Kingswear and its romantic route along the valley shoreline and onto Totnes and Torbay.

Dining Out

Vibrant cafés and delis, cosy inns, and sublime seafood - all within walking distance - including TV chef Mitch Tonks' go-to restaurants, ‘The Seahorse’ and ‘Rockfish’. Local favourites include Kendrick’s and Taylor's in the town centre, as well as hearty pub meals at The Floating Bridge and historic The Dartmouth Arms. The Sportsman’s Arms, as you head out of town, is a favourite for a Sunday carvery. The surrounding villages also have culinary gems, such as the Laughing Monk in Strete, and Radius 7 in Stoke Fleming.

Shopping

Individual and independent; quaint meets quality - browsing Dartmouth’s locally run stores is a treat. From bespoke jewellery to designer fashion, eye-catching artworks and stylish boutiques. Venture into Foss Street and lose yourself in its variety - you’re bound to come away with a memento of your stay.

Towns to explore

The eclectic market town of Totnes is 14 miles from Dartmouth. Reach it by road or river to enjoy its broad mix of shops and restaurants (especially for some tasty, inventive, vegetarian and vegan cuisine). From Totnes, the English Riviera is easily accessible (including the steam train to Paignton). Torbay offers golden beaches, exhilarating sea sports, and quaint fishing port tranquillity. Head inland to Buckfastleigh to get hands-on learning about the animals at Pennywell Farm. Cute and colourful, Buckfast Butterflies and otter sanctuary is a must-see. And there’s another picturesque steam railway.

Further afield, the picturesque resort town of Salcombe is 20 miles away - its golden beaches and clear waters make for perfect lazy days, and are superb for sailing.

Local places of interest

The striking Dartmouth Castle sits at the mouth of the river. Learn how Dartmouth's first coastal line of defence kept the port safe from enemy ships and pirates.

The grand former holiday estate of the world's greatest crime writer - Agatha Christie - is open during the summer months. Explore the resplendent gardens and the magnificent house. Reach it by ferry or steam train from Dartmouth.

Tours and tastings of the award-winning Sharpham Wines and cheeses make for a mouth-watering excursion - now newly relocated to their Sandridge Barton vineyard - but be sure to book in advance.

The Woodlands Family Theme Park, just outside Dartmouth, is Devon's largest theme park, with rides, slides, as well as indoor and outdoor play. It's a year-round family favourite.

If you're tempted to learn sailing, Marshalls Sailing School in Dittisham offers sailing and stand-up paddle boarding lessons to people of all levels in a quiet part of the river just upstream from Dartmouth.

Beaches and Walks

There are superb beaches close to hand. Blackpool Sands is a 10-minute drive from Dartmouth. This Blue Flag award-winning sand and shingle beach is great for swimming. There's also a café, shop, as well as canoe and paddleboard hire. Slapton Sands (5 miles from Dartmouth) stretches out across three miles of shoreline, helpfully laid out with three car parks and WC facilities. Behind Slapton Sands, you can also take a tranquil walk through Slapton Ley.

For a more-adventurous ramble, the Dart Valley Trail is a 10-mile circular walk up and down the Dart, with crossings at Dittisham and Dartmouth. And one of the world’s longest and most-popular trails - the South West Coast Path - can be picked up by Dartmouth Castle with a choice of wonderful walks along this great stretch of coastline.

We stayed in Seascape for a week in October. The flat was clean, well laid out and had everything we needed. The location was perfect, overlooking the lower ferry and with easy access to shops and restaurants. The only possible downsides, and not a real problem for us, were the stairs and the parking. The flat is on the second floor of the building, up steep flights of stairs, and the parking space is adequate, but a little tricky to manouvre into.Peter October 2024

We had a wonderful stay; the property is very central and there is lots to do in the area. The parking space is tight and at first the 35 steps up to the second floor are a bit daunting but the climb was well worth the effort. the view is great.Elizabeth September 2024

We really enjoyed our stay at Seascape.
The views from the sitting room were stunning. Everything was clean tidy and functional. Brilliant having our own parking space, this really was a bonus.
My only concern was the lack of recycling bin.
Would definitely recommend and would love to visit again. Victoria August 2024

A beautiful apartment, really well furnished in just a great location! Up on the second floor so not great for those with walking difficulties but it’s clearly advertised as such. Just lovely decor, interesting art even on the walk up!
And then you get that picture window!!! Never bored of watching the lower ferry & boats go by just outside the window! And relax…! Great for the soul and just a lovely place to be!
Bonus is the parking space, not huge but perfectly ok for a mid sized car!
And a slight smell from the restaurant kitchen outside but absolutely nothing to detract from a fab place! Will def be back!
And Dartmouth itself.., enough to see & do; a great base to explore from with great restaurants for the evenings! Andria a must! But Bushells below also great & really welcoming! Heather July 2024

The apartment was perfect. Great location, easy to access , clean and tidy with fantastic view of the Dart estuary. Definitely a place we’ll look to stay again Bryan May 2024

Perfect view over de Dart. Perfect spot for a holiday Jan May 2024

"Beautifull apartment ,lovely view of estuary, well worth the walk up the stairs plus the added convenience of car park.Very convenient for all the nooks & crannies of Dartmouth & the extending country side & coast. The shower was new & worked well which is one of our prioirities when travelling,& a second toilet. - Guest - August 2023

"We loved our three night stay from start to finish. Great communication from Dart Valley Cottages, parking was great and fit our VW T5 Van; the apartment had everything we needed and the washing machine and tumble dryer were really handy. You cannot fault the location and views. If it was dog friendly we would definitely return but doubt we would go back to Dartmouth without our pooch" - Emma - August 2023

"Excellent short break accommodation, had everything we needed, smart, comfortable, well located, off road parking, good views. Would go back." - Patrick - July 2023

"Had a long weekend here - great place to stay, centre of town, fabulous views, everything you could need is provided." - Kate - July 2023

"Stunning views amazing place we were lucky with sun shine all week x Only downside 37 stairs but this does help with the coffee and cakes consumed x. Bit noisy late evening local pubs moving bins about glass noise ferry stops at 11 pm x lovely airy flat opening velux roof light was great no pole found ? Son in law tall thankfully x Outside space to catch sun a real bonus as was the car parking space which does involve skilled reversing x Overall amazing place" - Gill - July 2023

"This is the third time we have stayed at Seascape. Since our last visit in November 2021 it has been fully redecorated and had new carpets throughout. We take pride in our own home and it’s great to see that the owners are keeping everything up to a high standard. The apartment is in a fantastic location with outstanding views both day and night, you never tire of looking out of the window. The little balcony is perfect to enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine while watching the world go by. The apartment is well equipped with everything you will need if you choose to cook, however, all of the lovely restaurants are within easy walking distance. The parking space is a bonus, but could do with a clean (my husband said) to stop debris being taken into the downstairs of the apartment. We kept our shoes downstairs so nothing was taken into the apartment. We will definitely be returning" - Marta - April 2023

:Seascape is a lovely apartment in a great spot overlooking the quay very close to the Lower Ferry. The accommodation is excellent. The exclusive parking space is very useful as parking is at a premium in Dartmouth. Although the apartment was immaculately clean (compliments to the cleaners), the carpets could do with a clean as there are a number of stains on them (accepted that we were there at the end of a no doubt very busy season). We would definitely book again. " - Carl - October 2022

* Please note that carpets are due to be replaced before 2023 season *

"Lovely apartment in an excellent location with lovely views over the Dart River. We really enjoyed our stay in Seascape, it is in centre of everything you need for a great holiday, with great views across to Kingswear. One of the advantages to staying in Seascape was the parking, it is a little tight for a mid-large cars but we managed, just be wear it is located in the road where cars wait to board the ferry but again this was not an issue. we really enjoyed watching the ferry every day going back across the Dart river. The apartment is great, with everything you need for a stay in South Devon, maybe not so good if you have mobility issues as there are around 30 stairs up to the apartment but this is why you get such good views.
You are on top of everything, good restaurants, take away food if required and many trips on boats to various locations. We were able to leave the car at the property for a few days and explore by foot/boat which was great for us as we did not wish to drive out everyday. There was good communication from Dart Valley Cottages from the start of our booking to the end of our stay, we received clear instructions on all we needed to know, I would look for other properties to stay from this company in the future. We would stay here again if we return to South Devon." - Sally - September 2022

"As we have stayed with Dart valley Cottages for a number of years now we know we can rely on them and won’t be disappointed. This is our second time in Seascape, which speaks for its self. And what a fabulous view. Thank you" - Sandra - July 2022

"Seascape offers unbelievable views across the harbour of Dartmouth. Off-street parking was incredibly useful. The apartment offered a great location with all the places we wanted to visit within a half hour drive. It is up 3 flights of stairs though so you need to be fit!" - Eleanore - June 2022

"This property Seascape is ideally situated close to the lower ferry in Dartmouth and near local shops and restaurants. It is set on the third floor and is well furnished with good amenities. There is a side balcony, but unfortunately no front balcony. The view from the limited front window is superb. There is parking which is excellent, but it is a tight space for a large car. It is not ideal for older couples with mobility problems - too many stairs and no lift." - Antony - May 2022

"We had a wonderful stay at Seascape in Dartmouth. The apartment was well appointed, clean and very comfortable. The views of the river are superb and we saw a beautiful tall ship during our stay as well as other interesting boats and ships sailing into Dartmouth. I highly recommend Dart Valley Cottages who are a very friendly family company and a pleasure to deal with. We will definitely return 😁." - Katherine - May 2022

"The two best things about Seascape are the location and view. Parking is also a bonus although is a bit of a squeeze for larger cars but we managed. The apartment was very comfortable with plenty of seating and the side balcony was useful! The stairs to the 3rd floor, where the apartment is situated could be a problem for the less mobile. We would stay in Seascape again. " - LLAxob - October 2021

"Absolutely stunning views, just as we had hoped. Couldn't have been a more beautiful location. We had everything we needed in a lovely clean and tidy apartment. The little balcony was lovely. Whilst the parking spot was a tight squeeze, it was doable even in our Toucson. We had a problem with one of the door handles coming loose but Dart Valley cottages sent someone straight away to fix it. Very impressed with the stay and service all in all. We will definitely be back!" - Helen - September 2021

"We returned to Seascape, having enjoyed our stay so much last year. This year did not disappoint. The flat and the views were as lovely as ever. It is very comfortable accommodation, extremely well-equipped and in the perfect location to access all that Dartmouth has to offer." - Bradshaw - August 2021

"We were very impressed with the location, cleanliness and facilities available at Seascape and would happily stay there again. A perfect location for a stay in Dartmouth - at the quieter end of the waterfront. We never tired of the marvellous view from the front window. Having private parking is a big advantage. The car parking was a bit of a challenge, as it is not very wide (we drive a VW Golf). A larger family car might have problems getting in (or people getting out, once parked)" - David - July 2021.

"Our holiday at Seascape was carried over from 2020 and was well worth the wait. The property is very well equipped and comfortable apart from the pillows which we feel needed replacing. There was plenty of towels but these were a little thin. Private parking was a big bonus and our large saloon car fitted in with no problems. The Sky Broadband was poor at times but this might be a problem in Dartmouth. We very much enjoyed our stay at Seascape and have provisionally book for next year." - The Madners - July 2021

"Location great, lovely apartment which had everything that we needed. What a stunning view and so handy for everything in Dartmouth." - Steve - June 2021

"Very comfortable and relaxing in a perfect position. It has everything you need and ideal for just walking out along coastal paths and so close to all of the individual shops and eating places. We will come back. ." - Tom - April 2021

"This was our second stay in this lovely apartment, we were not disappointed the second time around. It is in a fantastic location with easy access to the Lower Ferry, shops, bars and restaurants, which are all on the doorstep. The apartment is modern, comfortable and equipped with all of the essential kitchen wear. There are plenty of towels provided and also other bathroom essentials. The small balcony is perfect for morning coffee and evening drinks and wherever you sit you have great views of the river or the upper town. As the apartment is on the second floor it would not be recommended for anyone with small children or mobility issues. The parking space is a bonus, we have only been there out of season (October & April) and during these months it is no problem getting in and out of the space. We will definitely be returning" - Marta - April 2021

"We very much enjoyed our stay in Seascape, Dartmouth. The views over the river were fantastic and the balcony provided valuable outside space (when the weather was fine!).The flat was very clean and nicely decorated and equipped with good quality appliances. Our medium-sized car fitted into the parking space with a little room to spare but it wasn't always easy to park due to the traffic queuing for the Kingswear ferry in the adjacent lane. However, this was a minor niggle and we would certainly stay here again. The location was excellent and quiet at night." Janice - August 2020

"A lovely flat with beautiful views, very clean, comfortable beds only drawback getting in and out of parking spot people don't keep the yellow box free!!!" Richard - August 2020

"Very nice property with fantastic views. Parking car in space provided a problem at times as immediately near ferry queue" Sandra - August 2020

“Hello. Thank you for letting use share the delight that is “Seascapes”! We have been so relaxed and comfortable here. Obviously the incredible view is to die for but also the attention to detail – that has been well thought out. The private parking and private entrance to come and go as you please and the cleanliness. Please keep that up as it is very important to us. Would we come back? …. Definitely hope to! Thank-you. PS: treated it like home and took our shoes off at the front door. Liking the fact in winter could leave all “wet gear” downstairs” Patalie and Nigel – 30 June – 6 July 2019

“Our stay at Seascapes has been great. What a lovely apartment. Weather and walks all wonderful. Thanks you” Alan, Cathy and Louise – 1-8 June 2019
