Dittisham truly is a Devon gem. Nestled a few miles upstream from Dartmouth, this unspoiled and tranquil village is perfect for a relaxing riverside break and really makes the most of its waterside location. Watersports, fishing, sailing, paddle boarding and leisurely river rides are on your doorstep as well as easy access onto the South West Coast Path or various walks that follow the course of the River Dart. Or why not hire a boat and explore the valley at your own pace?
On land, the shoreline meadow makes for a perfect picnic spot. Downstream by the jetty is The Ferry Boat Inn – drink and dine while enjoying picture-perfect views across the river valley beyond. It’s also where you can hire a canoe or kayak and paddle the river’s shallower waters.
Dittisham is also superbly connected by river to the Dart Valley’s must-see villages, towns, and attractions. Year-round frequent ferries take you to the historic port of Dartmouth, picturesque Kingswear and the eclectic charms of Totnes. And, just across the river on the opposite bank, a quick boat trip takes you to Agatha Christie’s resplendent Greenway holiday home and gardens, now cared for by the National Trust, and an idyllic day out.
The Blue Flag Awarded beach of Blackpool Sands is an easy 15 minute drive away with Slapton Sands a beautiful pebble beach that stretches for almost two miles from Strete Gate to the village of Torcross a further 5 minutes away.
A lovely stay in beautiful Dittisham. Clean and fresh apartment- perfect for a week away, Kathleen August 2025
Fantastic holiday cottage. Spotlessly clean, a nice space, good size bedrooms and family space. Bathrooms fantastic. We loved our stay. Really enjoyed the location so close to the river. When the tide is out you can walk from the cottage, along the river to the quay area with the cracking Ferry Boat Inn pub (which we ate in most nights) . From here you can also hire boats (we did) or get ferries to Dartmouth. Be prepared, whist there is a small shop in the village, it only opens 0830-1200 and closed on a Sunday. Iain Aug 2025
What a fabulous place to stay. Everything and I mean everything was immaculate. All the little touches and so much more was in place which made our stay amazing. I certainly could live there. The whole cottage Was well equipped with all mod cons and the decor was beautifully presented. We will return. Philip August 2025
The Hayloft is a lovely cottage in the small village of Dittisham. It’s in a very quiet and peaceful location, and yet only a ten minute drive from two supermarkets and the beautiful town of Dartmouth. The cottage has everything you need. When we stayed it was pristine in every way and the facilities (especially the kitchen) are fabulous. We would certainly come back and stay here again. I would definitely recommend this to anyone considering it! Mark Aug 2025
If you’re thinking of booking this place, honestly do not think twice! It is a beautiful home away from home! In such a lovely location, very relaxing and quiet. A perfect location if you’d like to drive to different locations/get the boat. A wonderful place to stay, just be very careful of the roads in big cars! Gemma August 2025
