We loved our stay at The Nook. Perfectly situated in the quieter part of Dittisham at the top of the village within the sound of the church bells. So handy to have a parking space and the garden is lovely with a view over the river. We were lucky enough to eat out most days and it was incredibly peaceful with friendly neighbours. The cottage was very clean and well equipped. The stairs are very steep so may be difficult for those with limited mobility. A great location to tour around South Devon. Would definitely recommend. The Nook is a beautiful ‘chocolate-box’ cottage in a great location. The dedicated parking space is a bonus! The decor is lovely and the space is comfortable and homely. One thing to note: the stairs would be a challenge for anyone with mobility issues. Charlotte June 2024
Beautiful cottage in an amazing village. We will be back for sure! Chris May 2024
"The customer service from Dart Valley was excellent throughout and they always responded to questions. The Nook was welcoming and fully equipped. Despite being an old building the cottage was charming and comfortable with ample room for 4 people, it was also lovely to have the garden to sit outside in the sunshine. The village itself was a delight. We loved our early morning walks with the dog down to the harbour, enjoyed a boat trip to Dartmouth and some lovely evenings in the FBI pub where we were made to feel welcome. This was our first time using Dart valley cottages and we wouldn't hesitate to use them again. Thanks for a lovely holiday." - Emma - July 2023
"The Nook is the sweetest little cottage by the church on the quietest of lanes. So peaceful. You can glimpse the river from the back of it through the trees but otherwise it’s a quick 10 min walk down to the foreshore. Although small It’s got everything you need and a lovely little setting for table & chairs outside we had our breakfast there in the morning sun. Very cosy stay we loved it and will definitely be coming back. Very well organised and efficient team at dart valley cottages." - Caddy - July 2023
"Beautiful old cottage with an unusually big open, cosy ground floor for its age. Lovely furnishings, very clean and comfortable. It was also very cosy for our winter stay with the log burner. The cottage has the big bonus of a parking space which is unusual in the village. Quiet location in the village with beautiful views out across the river from the back." Liz - Jan 2023
"First thing to say is that other reviews have commented on the tight parking. The turning isn’t as bad as it first seems and there is plenty of room in the parking area itself. The cottage was lovely and well equipped. We used the ferry to get to Dartmouth. We also walked to Dartmouth and back one day. " - Lesley - September 2022
"Stunning little cottage in the most beautiful village. Gorgeous surroundings, and perfectly situated for travelling to Dartmouth, Greenway etc. We very much enjoyed visiting Bigbury whilst we were on holiday, a fantastic spacious beach which is also (mostly) dog friendly. Wouldn't hesitate to book again!" - Emma - August 2022
"Great cottage, well present, location great, well suited for a stay with 3 adults, toddler and baby. " - Becky - July 2022
"The Nook is the cutest cottage, in the most idyllic, perfect spot. We staying with our little dog and toddler, both of which had the best time exploring beautiful Dittisham and it’s surrounding scenery. The Nook has a real home from home feel, comfy sofas, kitchen essentials, a washer/dryer which was a godsends with the little ones clothes and just generally a really comfy place to stay. We will definitely be staying again and can’t wait to get back to the village of Dittisham - it really is such a gem! Thank you for having us!" - Rosie - July 2022
"Cracking location with everything close by, village is fantastic with great walks and views. Cottage was lovely with pretty much all you need. Some issues were quickly sorted by the agent." Mark - April 2022
"Lovely cottage, well equipped and comfortable. A problem with the heating when we arrived was swiftly sorted out by the maintenance team. Vehicle access to the village, road and the property is not the easiest but well worth these minor problems when you arrive at the Nook. The ability to access walks from the door is a great feature as is the easy access to the River Dart ferry system. The area map from the Red Lion pub/shop/post office was very handy to the walking network. We did quite a few walks around the area including one to Dartmouth, which, although fairly hard was very rewarding. Visits to nearby NT houses were good. All in all the Nook and it’s area lived up to our expectations." - Chris - October 2021
"We had a very comfortable stay at The Nook. Great to have dedicated parking and the sun trap garden, and perfect position for the village shop and the walk to The Ferry. Outside sun loungers need replacing urgently as they were broken, and the WiFi could be better (child lock was on which isn’t always necessary). The river views were unfortunately blocked by an overgrown hedge, but we spent a lot of time down by the water anyway. All in all a good cottage for the week but needs a bit of TLC in some areas. Would recommend the takeaway pizzas from The Ferry and a trip to The Cellar at Sharpham Vineyard for lunch and delicious wine!" - Laura - September 2021
"Comfortable well provided spacious accommodation and kitchen equipment. Peaceful location with parking" - Paul - September 20210.
"Enjoyed our stay at this sweet cottage. access for parking at the back of the property is very narrow and some larger cars might have difficulty. The cottage was clean with a nice welcoming pack and new garden furniture. The boiler in the roof above the small bedroom seemed to fire frequently in the night. Good exercise in climbing the hill to the Red Lion Pub ! Overall a lovely stay." - Jane - June 2021
"We had a very happy stay at the Nook. The cottage was comfortable and well stocked with everything one could need. We was blessed with great weather and because of the location of Dittisham we could comfortably leave the car and travel around by boat. The quay is a great place to hang out with pub right at hand. Only thing to mention is like a lot of places in Devon the roads around the village are extremely tight and hilly but you do get use driving around and keeping fit! Oh and great sunsets!" Jean - September 2020
"So pleased we booked The Nook. Dittisham is a beautiful village and this cottage was perfect for myself, my wife and our 18 year old daughter. Very clean, well laid out with character features but modern at the same time. Very comfy beds. Lovely garden which gets the sun most of the day so you can sit out for breakfast, lunch and dinner if you want. It's 2 mins walk to a little slipway that leads onto the River Dart at Dittisham Mill Creek so we were able to carry our paddleboards down without having to drive! You just need to check the web for tide times but this is easy enough." Toby - September 2020
"A cosy and characterful cottage in a lovely place near wonderful countryside and river . We were extremely comfortable and close to , the beautiful river dart , the quay , the pub and restaurant. It is sometimes a steep walk but worth it." Julie - August 2020
"The Nook is a lovely comfortable and well equipped cottage. The position is excellent and very quiet. The 2 parking spaces are useful. We like the proximity to the Red Lion pub and shop. The restaurant is excellent with wonderful fresh fish. We will book this cottage again" Harriet - August 2020

"Enjoyed are stay at the Nook. Everything we needed, great little find.We have stayed with friends before in Dittisham. Great location for Dartmouth and Salcombe. The FBI always worth a visit with good pub grub and right on the river dart." Craig - December 2019
“Comfortable and quiet. Provided all the amenities needed for a very pleasant holiday. Dart Valley Cottages responded well to a repair that became necessary and a working temporary fix was put in place whilst a new part ordered. Literature accurate and helpful. Would have been nice to have had some meals ‘al fresco’ but the weather put a stop to that. Log burner useful – cosy and warm. Locals friendly and helpful. Car-parking space very useful unlike some of the other cottages in Dittisham that don’t have them.” Michael 27 September 2019
“Delightful cottage and garden. We will be booking again. Welcome pack appreciated, especially milk for a cup of tea on arrival after a long journey.” Valerie – 14-21 September 2019

“An enjoyable repeat stay at The Nook despite wet weather. The cottage provided all that we needed for a comfortable stay. The weather denied us the use of the pretty garden. The on-site parking is an added bonus. The village provides a choice of three eating establishments with the Red Lion PH being the closest to The Nook and doubles up as general store and Post Office.” Peter – 8-15 June 2019
“We had a lovely weeks stay in The Nook. The position is great, although the drive is a little on the narrow side if you have a large car.” Julie, Tim and Charlie – May 2019
“A haven of tranquility in Dittisham! Lovely cosy cottage, with beautiful garden where you can sit in the sun from sunrise to sunset – perfect! The cottage has everything you might need, with comfortable beds and plenty of hot water for showers. The garden was it’s greatest asset, and the parking! We were very lucky with the weather, and were able to eat our breakfast in the garden every morning, and enjoy a glass of wine in the evening watching the sunset over the River Dart. A quiet, characterful & peaceful part of a lovely village. We’ve been coming to Dittisham for many years, but have never stayed at The Nook – we will be back!” Charles – 18-25 May 2019

Dittisham truly is a Devon gem. Nestled a few miles upstream from Dartmouth, this unspoiled and tranquil village is perfect for a relaxing riverside break and really makes the most of its waterside location. Watersports, fishing, sailing, paddle boarding and leisurely river rides are on your doorstep. Or why not hire a boat and explore the valley at your own pace?
On land, the shoreline meadow makes for a perfect picnic spot. Downstream by the jetty is The Ferry Boat Inn – drink and dine while enjoying picture-perfect views across the river valley beyond. It’s also where you can hire a canoe or kayak and paddle the river’s shallower waters.
Dittisham is also superbly connected by river to the Dart Valley’s must-see villages, towns, and attractions. Year-round frequent ferries take you to the historic port of Dartmouth, picturesque Kingswear and the eclectic charms of Totnes. And, just across the river on the opposite bank, a quick boat trip takes you to Agatha Christie’s resplendent Greenway holiday home and gardens, now cared for by the National Trust, and an idyllic day out.
