A surprising hidden gem and located in the heart of the picturesque village of Galmpton, The Old Shop House is a charming 3-bedroom property that combines traditional charm with contemporary features. The property, along with two of its neighbours, used to form the main shop in the village and the owners have slowly been restoring its original features.
As you step inside the property you climb the staircase to the first floor where you find the cosy lounge with a feature fireplace with alcoves either side and two plush sofas arranged around a matching pouffe. A wonderful place to sit and relax in the evening either reading a book borrowed from the bookshelf, catching up on a programme on the SMART TV or listening to a podcast on the Sonos system. Tasteful artwork and soft lighting create an inviting atmosphere.
The modern kitchen is equipped with high-end appliances, including a large oven with gas hob, integrated dishwasher, fridge freezer as well as a wine cooler. Wooden worktops and an inset sink add to the charm along with a wooden dining table with chairs for up to 6 guests. The rear door leads out to the first of the outside spaces with a fully enclosed courtyard with seating.
Ascending the stairs to the upper floors, you’ll discover the three bedrooms. On the second floor you have two bedrooms, one furnished with a kingsize bed and enjoying some views over the village and the other furnished with a 2' 6 single bed. On this level you will also find the family bathroom with large walk-in shower cubicle, wc and washbasin.
The third bedroom is accessed up a spiral staircase to the top floor housing a spacious bedroom with kingsize and a single bed, perfect for families and the skylights brighten the room and offer views over the village and the raised terrace garden at the rear.
The highlight of the property is the rear outside terrace accessed via the courtyard and up a flight of external steps. The terrace is beautifully designed for entertaining with a comfortable outdoor dining area and, for the experienced pizza enthusiast, a large outdoor pizza oven.
Parking
On street parking is available nearby.
Please note: The property is suitable for 4 adults and 2 children. Due to the stairs in the property and the access to the top garden area the property may not be suitable for the less mobile or young children.

Galmpton is a charming village situated in South Devon, nestled between the bustling town of Brixham and the tranquil River Dart. It is part of the English Riviera, known for its stunning coastal scenery and mild climate. Galmpton retains a quintessential English village charm with its narrow lanes, historic cottages, and well-tended gardens.
The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside and offers stunning views of the rolling hills and the River Dart. It’s a perfect spot for those who enjoy outdoor activities like walking, cycling, and boating. Galmpton Creek is just a 5 minute walk away and continue further on the footpath for a further 2 miles and you will reach Greenway Estate, the former summer home of famed author Agatha Christie. The estate, now managed by the National Trust, and offers a glimpse into the life and times of the beloved mystery writer.
Beautifully appointed cottage with lovely bedrooms and cosy comfy beds. Nice modern bathroom and kitchen. It was lovely to walk to Greenway and get the ferry to Dittisham, and we highly recommend the baked goods and other goodies available at the friendly local shop in Galmpton. Whilst pets are allowed, please be aware the garden is not enclosed. Parking close to the house is a challenge, but if you’re prepared to walk, you’ll find on street spaces around the village. There are a lot of stairs (leading into the house, and outside up to the barbecue area), so not great if you’re thinking of taking elderly guests or very young children. Also, while the village itself is quiet, the house is on a busy road, and you have to step out with care to avoid colliding with cars.Karen August 2024
Really wonderful place to stay, decorated very nicely and homely, description and pictures were quite accurate, there are many stairs (leading up to the house and then the garden, aswell as those in the pictures) but not too difficult! Lovely village with really friendly locals and a charming pub ( the manor inn). The hosts were very understanding when we accidentally took one of the keys home and very responsive to any questions. Although listed as pet friendly the garden is not enclosed and in the house guide book it states pets are not to be left in the house alone at any time. Overall we would absolutely recommend this place and would happily stay again ourselves! Kera August 2024
Great stay with friends, easy to reach multiple beaches and coves.Connor August 2024
