Nearby
South Devon has long been a sanctuary for those seeking tranquillity, restorative landscapes and creative inspiration. Just across the water from us stands Greenway, the beloved holiday home of world-famous author Agatha Christie. Now cared for by the National Trust, the house and its romantic woodland gardens, vinery and peach house are open to visitors. Wandering through the grounds feels like stepping into the pages of one of her novels.
You might also enjoy exploring the 1,200-acre Dartington Trust, a unique blend of visitor destination and centre for progressive learning. At its heart is The Barn Cinema, an independent cinema set within a beautifully converted 14th-century barn in a medieval courtyard. Here you’ll find an eclectic programme of arthouse and independent films, family favourites, timeless classics and the latest blockbusters throughout the season.
Dartington also hosts a vibrant calendar of summer festivals, alongside an excellent choice of places to eat and drink. We highly recommend The White Hart, Roundhouse Cafe or The Green Table for a relaxed and memorable dining experience.
Nearby, you will find Blackpool Sands, a stunning and sheltered cove nestled on the south coast of Devon. Renowned for its striking blend of golden sand and smooth pebbles, the beach is framed by lush pine woodlands that provide both shade and a sense of seclusion. The clear, turquoise waters are ideal for swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding, while the surrounding cliffs offer scenic walking routes with panoramic views of the coastline. Facilities such as a café, car park, and picnic areas make it accessible for families, yet the beach retains a peaceful, unspoiled charm that attracts nature lovers and photographers alike.
