You may think of Devon as a summer holiday destination. But there are plenty of reasons to visit in the cooler months. Not least because you can snuggle up next to the wood burner in one of our cosy cottages. Here’s why you should consider an off season break and take advantage of all the things to do in South Devon in winter.
NB: In 2020 always check what’s open and whether you need to book days out in advance.
Have a fun-filled day out

Plenty Devon attractions remain open over the winter months including theme parks, steam railways and historic houses. Some of our favourites are Dartmouth Steam Railway, Woodlands Theme Park and our local National Trust properties. There’s plenty to do within a short drive of Dartmouth and the South Hams.
Here’s a selection of things to enjoy in South Devon when it’s raining and free days out if you are on a budget.
Enjoy the quieter beaches

The South Ham’s best beaches and coves are a lot less busy in the winter. But on a bright, clear day it can still feel like summer.
Many of South Devon’s beaches are dog-friendly over the winter months too. So there’s even more places for you to explore with your four-legged friend.
